I must confess queenie, Hélène, panna luvers ... I pretty much 'stalk' the Zoo Atlanta website in the morning waiting for them to post an update. As each day passes, my anxiety level has diminished with the news, as I read that Lani's comfort, sense of security, and appetite has increased.

But the news that Heather's stay has been extended is thrilling!Smile

Panna hugs!

Giant panda Mei Lan adapts to new home in China
2010-02-12 10:26 BJT

Article includes the same video as posted yesterday.
http://english.cctv.com/program/chinato ... 1701.shtml

Giant panda Mei Lan is beginning to familiarize herself with her new home after returning from the US. The bamboo-eating mammal has experienced some discomfort but is now in a stable condition.

Shortly after her return, Mei Lan seemed agitated, growling at strangers and moving restlessly in her new home. Vets suspect Mei Lan was suffering from severe jet lag. luckily, three days later, things are improving.

Li Mingxi, animal director of Panda BreeDing Cen. in Chengdu, said, "Her conditions are getting better. The first day she refused to eat, but now she's beginning to feed."

Mei Lan's new home is a quarantined enclosure. Fitted with two well ventilated rooms, it's very quiet so Mei Lan can adapt to her new environment more quickly.

Duan Dongqiong, Mei Lan's keeper, said, "Yesterday she had a banana. That's good. Everyday the American keeper and I talk to her. She wasn't very used to my Sichuan dialect. But as days go by, She is gradually getting used to my presence. "

To make the adaptation more smooth, the breeding center is slowly replacing the American biscuits in her diet with Chinese steamed buns of corn and fresh bamboo.
