Expect The Unexpected at the 100 Day Giant Panda Cub Celebration

Lun Lun’s newest cub might be her third, but fans should not expect a re-run of previous naming celebrations. The only giant panda cub born in the U.S. in 2010 will be named on February 15, 2011, in an extraordinary event unlike any other ever hosted by Zoo Atlanta.

The 100 Day Giant Panda Cub Celebration will feature a surprise appearance by a major international celebrity. The event will continue with a morning of fun and fellowship for giant panda fans from around the world.

While the guest of honor – the 3-month-old cub – will not be present for the festivities, he is expected to make his public debut in late March or early April. In the meantime, fans can keep track of the cub on PandaCam as he learns to walk. Presented by EarthCam, PandaCam runs Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on zooatlanta.org.

Right after the last vid of a quick snack & playing with Mama's foot~he moves right along around & under the boo, giving us a cute close-up of his face & then starts picking it up, and even stretch/selecting/reaching for some. He's acquiring an interest in it, & so busy at it: not sure if he's mimicking Mama Lun eating it, re-arranging it, but probably just enjoying/playing with it. At the end Lun covers him again with it then moves it off him & looks at him~so careful with the sweetie. .

ATLANTA -- Zoo Atlanta's Giant Panda cub turned 100 days old Friday, and he's going to get a big party.
"Our newest panda cub baby is doing phenomenal," said Zoo Atlanta veterinarian Sam Rivera.
Vets say the 3-month-old has grown to 10 pounds, is learning to walk, and is very active.
"When we're working with him on the examination table, all he wants to do is crawl and try to get off the table so it takes a few hands to keep him in place," Rivera said.
Zoo Atlanta is gearing up for its 100 Day Giant Panda Cub Celebration on Tuesday, when they will finally reveal the baby panda's name.
11Alive News tried to get a hint of where the name is coming from, but lips are sealed.
"It's a secret, so you have to be here," Rivera said.
The celebration kicks off at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Giant Panda exhibit. It's open to the public and free with general admission to the zoo.

They play together up in the "L" room and then Lun carries him through the doorway to play with him through there. The cubbie is having fun swatting Lun with his front paw raised & falls over and Lun goes back in the room~a big incentive~the cubbie wants to go in there to play some more, and tries so hard to get up on hind legs and does a few times & then like the energizer bunny wears down & nods off to sleep.

On Friday, "Wee Lan" turned 100 days old! He will officially get his name Tuesday morning, February 15th

Friday, February 11
Yesterday was my first opportunity to see the (soon to be named) cub receive his weekly checkup. He is not afraid to voice his opinion about being handled. Luckily for him, the exam does not take long and he is quickly returned to Lun Lun.

I went back and found the closest stats of Mei Lan and Xi Lan for comparison. Please remember there is some wiggle room, as the cubs do not sit very still during the measuring process.
