SEPTEMBER 24, 2014

WELCOME TO THE 2014/2015 SEASON!

Welcome to this thread. Most of the pictures posted early on were of Ma & Pa Stalashen and their offspring but we have discovered other nests so pictures/comments are posted of them.

Please stop by and say Hi. If you visit any of the nests in Sechelt and Gibsons you are welcome to post comments and pictures here.

Stalashen Nest

We have been watching this nest in Sechelt from our living room, through a telescope and binoculars. My husband saw that the nest was being used several years ago but we didn't see the eagles there again until 2008. We have been following it ever since. We have talked to a few of the people living close to the nest and they said that it has been there over 20 years. Unfortunately, it did blow down in July 2009 after a windstorm but we are happy to tell you that the eagles have built a new nest. When the nest blew down one of the eaglets had branched and the 2nd one was fine also, the eagles fed them on a branch before they fledged. We look through our telescope at this nest which is about a mile and a half away. We can only see them clearly in the morning or evening due to the glare from the water and thermal interference.

It was September 26, 2013 that I saw one of our eagles in the Stalashen Nest tree. I took a look when I got up this morning but no eagle spotted.

I was out with friends today, checked out the MARSH and STALASHEN sites. No nest building evident at the MARSH site and the neighbour I spoke with at STALASHEN didn't even know the eagles haven't been around but claims she hasn't seen them. I explained how they fly north to find the fish around mid August but should be returning soon. She'll be watching for them now.
