Welcome to Ma & Pa Sidney's thread.

Ma & Pa Sidney began building a new nest at the end of the 2011 and have now used it for 3 seasons. In 2012 they raised 3 eaglets and in 2013 only one.

They did not successfully produce any any eaglets in 2014.

The nest is located on private property in the same area of Sidney BC as the previous nest.

Due to privacy & safety concerns, the property owners did not allow us to install a cam in the nest.
HWF members have been asked to not loiter, take photos or videos around the new nest area unless invited to do so.

However, members who visit the public Pat Bay area are welcome to share their observations, photos and videos of Ma & Pa Sidney taken at the beach and environs.

We wish them every success in the coming season.

Visited Pat Bay and area yesterday hoping to see Ma and/ or Pa. They were nowhere in sight. Spoke with the farmers and a contact at Epicure and no one has seen them yet.
The farmers removed a dead tree adjacent to the nest tree , which is also dying, and the nest is much more exposed now.
There is a record sockeye salmon run this year so I expect they are taking full advantage of that. Smile

I did a tour of the nests on the peninsula this afternoon and Pa was perched at the top of the tallest tree near the nest tree Clapping He was there when I drove by the first time and was still there an hour and a half later. He was looking around in every direction but I didn't hear him calling and didn't see Ma anywhere Sad

Sandra we are always relieved to see both eagles back in their territory. Ma could very well have been in the area and I just didn't see her. The tide was very high yesterday so there was no beach to walk on. It's very disappointing that members of the ground crew have been asked not to take pictures of them around their nest territory Sad Perhaps they will move house again this winter; their nest is looking quite sad Sad

Pictures of those perch trees does make one wonder where they will find to perch with good vision of all they keep an eye on. I wonder if that will influence where they build if they rebuild this year. I would think so.

Sandra if they use the same nest as last year they won't be able to see it from those trees Sad I think they might not be tall enough now for them to feel comfortable perching there, unless they come to the beach for food Wink There are a lot of other trees along the waters edge that they perch in and I'm sure they feel more comfortable in those trees rather than the ones right along the road Sad Wouldn't it be wonderful if they built a new nest on the old nest property fingers crossed
