Welcome to the Ten Mile Point Eagles thread for the 2013/2014 season.

This nest is on private property in the Ten Mile Point area, within the Municipality of Saanich. With respect for the owners of the nest property, the exact location will not be divulged. The nest has been on this property for several years and could possibly be a replacement nest for the one that was in a huge cottonwood tree in a nearby park that blew down in 2011. I don't have info on how many eaglets the pair have produced and fledged while the nest has been on this private property but do know there were 2 eaglets last season. I am hoping to chat with a few neighbours to obtain additional info to add to this thread the next time I visit.

When I arrived Mom flew into the nest tree from a nearby tree and perched above the nest for a few minutes before dropping down into it to be with her chicks.

Dad was perched in a nearby tree squawking at a juvenile eagle that was flying around over the nest area. He finally flew off and chased the juvenile away. His head was hidden behind the branch but he was waving at me with his toe.

I heard peeping from the nest and saw beige fluff and a beak between the nest sticks, but did not see Mom feeding.

I have been aware of a nest at Ten Mile Point for a few years but it is located in the public park and not on private property. David H and I have discussed it many times as he is aware of a nest being there since time began and has asked me several times if I have seen it. I have only seen the nest on Google Earth ! but I have seen newly fledged juvies in late summer.

I have been aware of a nest in the park at Ten Mile Pt. for many years but have never looked for it. I worked for the Greater Victoria School District who used to own property which was sold to Saanich and is now part of the park. There was a nest in a huge cottonwood tree in the park that blew down a few years ago. When my son was painting a house on the water side at Ten Mile Pt. many years ago both adult and juvenile eagles used to sit in the tree outside of the living room window and watch him.

I visited the Ten Mile Pt. nest yesterday and saw Mom in the nest feeding the eaglet(s). She sat on the other side of the nest after the feeding and one eaglet is clearly visible and getting big Oh My

My friend who monitors this nest for WiTS has confirmed there are 2 eaglets in the nest. She has sent me a pic and I'll ask her if she will give me permission to post it here.
