Blackwater NWR Eagle Cam

The camera has frequently updating still shots, and uses infrared technology to provide "night vision." During last year's nest season, the cam was turned off from 11 pm - 3 am to reduce bandwidth expenses. We expect the same for the cam this year.

The nest is located in the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge on Maryland's Eastern Shore. This is one of the first nests to have a cam, and has been online since 2005. The pair has successfully raised three chicks in 2005, and two each from 2006 through 2010. The pair successfully raised three chicks in 2011. In 2012, tragedy struck at the nest on February 26, Two eight-day old chicks were killed by an intruder eagle at the nest. In 2013, Mom Blackwater laid three eggs. The chick from the third egg succumbed, but Mom and Dad raised two beautiful chicks from hatching to the time they fledged and were taught to care for themselves; the two were named Talon and Soar through a contest by Blackwater Refuge.

Hello to the Blackwater Buds and all who may join us here this year. You will find many friends here as we watch the Blackwater Family grow each year.

Unfortunately right now, here is the notice on the cam page:

10/07/13:
Technical Note
Our cam PC needs to be rebooted, but the PC is in one of the buildings closed by the government shutdown. We'll reboot it once we have access to the building.

However, there is also good news on the cam page! One of the parents was spotted near the nest on September 18!!!!

Good morning all -

The cam is back up and running at Mom and Dad's nest. This morning is a beautiful and sunny day, but it seems at least one of the Blackwater eagles has chosen to perch on the osprey nest. I'm not sure if this is one of our pair, but let's pretend it is! Whistling

Lonette, thank you!

It's wonderful to see Mom or Dad - even if just a tail......as he/she leaves. A new season is around the corner.
