Hope I am doing this right. I very rarely comment on the forum. Sorry if someone else has recently made reference to this. Regarding Ma Delta's foot, will there be another attempt to capture Ma Delta following this nesting season? I seriously worry about her attempt to trek North and future successful nesting seasons. I also worry about Mrs. Delta's ability to defend herself if need be.

FROM DAVID HANCOCK:

Hi all: Re Ma Delta 2 with the wounded leg

I recognize the concerns of some viewers about Ma's competative abilities while off on migration. More importantly will she again be able to hold her territory next fall. This season she had an incredible male to assist her with food and other duties. I did not for a minute think with her leg snapped off and dangling back and forth that it could set itself let alone her survive. These eagles never fail to amaze me.

At the broken leg stage we got permission to try and catch her for setting the leg but she became doubly cautious and would not even, for those first few days, take food from a person she knew. Feeling her own vulnerability made her extra cautious. Perhaps this same caution will see her through the fall salmon spawning season when food is really most readily available. Hopefully by her return this fall she will be even stronger and equally or more capable of performing for another season.

Dr. Bird is trying to organize a student program through Simon Fraser University. When the project is outlined and we have the proposal that will involve trapping a number of eagles, we will be more equipped to undertake a related issue like this one. The big challenge is that we will be needing to find a sponsor to fund a minimum of 3 to 5 years for the study at about $50,000 per year. Do we know of some sponsors lurking in the woods?

Thanks.

Ma this morning on the nest and up to the branch... She is usually stiff in the mornings... When she came in with salmon last night and fed the kids she was moving around pretty well
