An internet disconnect has cut the camera focused on Turtle Bay’s famous bald eagles in downtown Redding.
The eagle cam has been out since Friday — with the online feed attempting to download but not showing an image. Denise Yergenson, spokeswoman for the California Department of Transportation, said late this morning that the eagle cam should be back on the Internet in a couple of hours. At 4:30 p.m. the Turtle Bay eagle cam Web site still displayed a "Q" and a connection failure notice rather than images of the eagles.
While the eagle cam is on the fritz, the eagles are close to laying their eggs, she said. Last year the first of three eggs was laid on Feb. 6 and the last was on Feb. 13.
She said scientists went into the field Sunday to check on the eagles and on the eagle cam equipment.
“They are no eggs in the nest,” she said.
Direct connections to the eagle cam at Turtle Bay Exploration Park and ICF Jones and Stokes, a Redding environmental consulting firm monitoring the eagles, are still providing images, Yergenson said.
Although all the equipment checked out, she said a security update or power outage has caused a problem between the webcasting hardware and Internet bandwidth providers.
“It’s not the equipment,” she said. “...We just can’t get it onto the Internet for some reason.”

They're also having problems connecting from the new cam they just installed at the Deschutes Oregon nest. No clue how close the two nests are or if they share an internet provider....
Hopefully both will be back online soon - though this one is more urgent as the Oregon nest is one of the last to have eggs most years.

Hey everybody. It's me, putytatt! Eaglewoman was gracious enough to let me use her hubby's moniker, so I could be Eagle Eye! He is eagle eyes!
I just checked the cam and it is down again, at least for me. My bet was for there to be an egg on Feb. 1. With the cam down, who's to know?
