Ma Firehall is sitting on an egg ( or two?) Just saw her about 1/2 hour ago. Too bad about the stick in front of her face. Due to the late afternoon lighting, this was the best I could do. But isn't it just great that they are back and they seem to be the first to lay an egg. Shine a light. |

She's lying down in the nest, sassyk. She would only be doing that if she was incubating an egg. It seems the firemen, the police and some of the neighbours are not very reliable sources of information. Go figure Shine a light. |

I went to Oak Bay today and visited all 3 nests. When I arrived at the Fire Hall nest Pa was in the nest and Ma was on a branch nearby. I chatted with 2 people coming and going from the police office and both said they have seen the eagles coming and staying around the nest area for short periods of time for the past few weeks. They both said they have also seen both eagles in and around the nest for the past few days. However, I do not believe they have any eggs in the nest. As I was chatting with the 2nd person, I had my back to the nest and she looked up and said one had just left the nest tree. I managed to get a couple of pix of it flying away and then the other one flew off after the 1st one. They flew off in the distance and kept circling overhead. Then we both spotted another adult eagle flying overhead quite close to where Ma & Pa Fire Hall were soaring. All 3 adults kept circling overhead until they disappeared from sight. I walked the Bowker Creek trail and around the side street waiting for them to come back but there was no sight of them. I thought for sure if they had an egg in the nest they both wouldn't be gone from the nest area for a long time. I know they can leave the egg(s) unattended for a short while, especially when it is warm, but they usually stay close by. They were both gone far away for a long time The most precious things in life aren't things! |

Here are a few pix from today of Ma & Pa Fire Hall; I think it was Pa in the nest and Ma in the tree. The pix of Ma & Pa were taken at 2:25 and the pic of the empty nest was taken at 2:45 after the eagles flew off and after I had come back from my walk along Bowker Creek and the side street. Here are a few pix of the Golf Course eagle in the fir tree across from the entrance to the golf course. I'm not sure, but I think it is Pa. A bit different shape than the one I saw last week. Click them bigger. The most precious things in life aren't things! |
