Hi everyone. Ian and I have discovered another bald eagle nest in the Ardmore area of North Saanich about 2 miles south of Pat Bay where Ma and Pa Sidney reside.
We kayak in this area often and see eagles all the time but it wasn't until the end of last season we actually found the nest location accessible by land.
I will be back with initial photos of the nest and one of the adults perched nearby. Did not see any eaglets yesterday but the nest looks well used. No foliage growing in it that would indicate an abandoned nest.

elle 2 years ago the lady who owns the property that the Muse Winery nest is on, told me about a friend of hers who lives on Ardmore Dr. who has an eagle nest in her yard. She loves the eagles and when she noticed the nest was needing some repairs, she decided to help the eagles by doing some reinforcing of the nest herself Whistling I wonder if this is the same nest you saw Chin

To be honest, Kay, I did not make note of the name of the road and Ian never looks at road names. Roll eyes I just know how to get there and where the nearby public access is for us to launch our kayaks. Will try to remember to look for a road name next time.
But here is a picture of the nest. It is on private property. Does it look to you like it has been reinforced? I can't tell.

And a pic of the likely female judging by the size.

elle I don't see any evidence of reinforcement. It was 2 years ago when I was told the story and I don't know how many years it was before that when the owner did it.

Kay: Maybe any reinforcement is only visible from the other side? There is another nest near by but it is on First Nations reserve land. We have only seen it when we are kayaking in the area.

Dropped by this nest yesterday not expecting to see anything and was rewarded with an eaglet wingercising in the wind.

Had to lighten these pictures a whole lot unfortunately.
Taken yesterday late afternoon July 23-13.
He/she was hot and hungry, crying out for food. No adult in sight. Likely out fishing.
Please click the pics for at least an acceptable view. Thx.

A request from David Hancock:

Does anyone have a photo of spawning salmon? Preferably as seen from above in the water. It is to be used as a feature month in the 2014 Calendar so must be hi res. Please go HERE for required specs and where to send the photo(s).

Thank you,
davidh
