2014 Season Live Cam Link

THANKS DUTCH EAGLE FAN (DEF)

On a communication tower in De Mortel (Noord Brabant) in the Netherlands a pair of Peregrine Falcons has taken residence.

In 2005 Pa and Ma had their first clutch of two eyases, May and June. In 2006 four eggs hatched and all four chicks fledged successfully.
In 2007 the couple had three eggs that hatched in early April.
But then disaster struck. A two year old female invaded the territory and it came to a battle between Ma and this new female, born in Belgium in 2005.
Ma was never seen again and is presumed dead because of this fight.
Pa turned out to be a very determined parent and kept on feeding his eyases. The new female, now called S2, after the band code, saw this delivery of prey as a part of courtship and took a lot of it for herself.
The three chicks suffered from lack of food and the smallest, youngest one died after a week. Then a miracle happened.
On May 13, Mothers day, S2 started to interact with the remaining two young and even began to feed them with some of the prey remains in the nest box.
She and the two eyases, now named Hope and Faith, were waiting for Pa to bring some fresh prey. But he didn't show up at the box, although he was nearby on the roof all the time.
That evening S2 went hunting and she returned with a fresh BIG pigeon! She had caught food for her foster chicks and for the first time since Ma was killed, the eyases went to sleep with a full stomach and crop.
From now on S2 proved to be an excellent mother and the two Falcons fledged and went out into the wide world as healthy as can be.
S2 and Pa stayed together and raised a family of four in 2008 as well as in 2009.

The four eyases of the 2009 season were named Osiris (male; band code FU), Isis (female; band code BA), Hathor (male; band code FT and Horus (male; band code FV ).
These names were chosen to honour Froona Veldhuis, the woman who made it possible, with a few other dedicated people, that we still have web cams with this falcon's nest.
She unexpectedly died on April 4 2009 and was mourned by many falcon friends from all over the world.
