Scout

Trooper

Video: Three Eggs for Scout and Trooper

Two pieces of good news! First, Scout and Trooper have three eggs (April 8, April 10, April 12). A contest was held to name Scout's new guy, and "Trooper" won.

This video is long because I wanted to show Trooper in the nest box. He looks surprised and pleased with the three eggs (more may be laid). He's smaller than Scout and he isn't banded. We won't see too much of him in the nest box, in the future, because Scout will do most of the incubating.

I tried to remove some of the blue look of this video with my video editor… I’ll be glad when this problem is fixed. Is the sound working in the nest box? This is a silent video, but I don’t know whether that’s due to no “conversation” or no working microphone.

& the nestbox audio was off yesterday while she was laying the 4th, as you could hear her in there calling out~ with Trooper looking towards it on the ledge & switch to the nestbox and silence.

Video: Trooper Cleans House, Gives Scout a Break

Covering all four eggs is a little tricky. This is a full clutch and incubation is 24/7. We can expect the first chick to hatch in about 33 days. Left thumb up

Pretty peregrine falcon, Scout laying her 4th egg. Last 3 minutes un-cut as I think she deserves her real time then. Oh My:blink: {was approx. 20 min. total, from looking like sleeping Out to the same movements over & over spaced-out Out to her resting at the end} Wublovelovelovelove

4/22/10~2 Intruders on the Ledge~2.34min < Video Link

Ledge~Young peregrine male incubating eggs is visited, by probably neighboring, what looks like black pigeons. They didn't stay but a couple minutes; because a peregrine can eat most of a pigeon in one day. Oh MyRoll eyes

4/22/10~Young Peregrine Visited By 2 Intruders~6.32min. < Video Link

Nestbox~Thank goodness, just black pigeons, what peregrines eat~~but there were 2 and the eggs needed to be considered and protected & Trooper looks young, though pigeons eat mostly seeds & grains. {the pigeons must have been around longer than they were on the ledge by Trooper's longer reaction; but seem to have landed around 2:25 min. & love his fierce protective stance with eggs behind him from 2:45 on & pictured on the frame of this video. & they were black & looked big in front of cam} Oh My:blink:

Great catch, Queenie! A number of pigeons have been seen near this nest box. They'd best stay away! Here's what happened in 2008 when Scout was in the nest box and Orville wasn't far away....
