Cam came online April 5, 2013 - and Sherri saw an osprey - here's her picture from the Maine forum of what we think is Mom:

Hi everyone Smile

As Judy mentioned, female returned on April 5, 2013 (confirmed by Iain)

.....and what I believe to be our male returned this morning.
Male on the left....

They were both appearing defensive. Might be a third osprey or possibly an immature eagle that someone on site
observed yesterday. It appeared as though they both took off in pursuit but they have been back and forth a couple
times now.

Female currently on nest at 3:00 PM

We also have a new male ...... our previous male was present at the beginning of the season (as in the
above picture) but apparently has been driven off.
This male has very similar markings to Mom so a bit difficult to tell apart.

Dad came in around 9:00 and stayed with her for hours! Red Heart

She went for a quick break and he stood guard.......I hope he knows he has to take a turn incubating. Green LOL

Thanks for stopping by, Sherri. I have an update, with thanks to Sherri and tele from the Maine Window-on-Wildlife forum (posts starting with first sighting of the egg begin here - http://www.window-on-wildlife.com/index ... 5#msg62125) - and unfortunately it is not good news. Sad

Things were looking good the rest of the day on April 23rd - the male spent some time on the nest, and while he hasn't learned to incubate, he was making sure that more eggs were possible. Things began to go downhill the morning of the 24th - the male didn't show up with food for the female, though he did eventually appear and keep her company for a while. Then the nest was unattended for a while, and what appeared to be a third osprey with a darker "necklace" than Mom was on the nest; it approached the egg a couple of times, and looked as if it might incubate, but didn't. There was a food delivery that evening (great ground observer pictures by tele on the Maine forum), and I'm not quite sure if Mom or the other osprey got it. It did look as if Mom was back incubating a bit later.

Mom was there this morning, and we think Dad brought her a fish, and perhaps tried to incubate - but by later in the morning, it looked as if the egg had disappeared. Sherri said it looked as if the visitor with the dark necklace stepped on it, so it might have been damaged then.

An osprey that looks like Mom has been on the nest for a while - and if it's Mom, it is getting near time for her to lay her second egg. I haven't seen Dad while I've been watching (on and off for a couple of hours) - but also haven't seen anyone else bothering Mom or the nest, so that's promising. Here are a couple of s'caps.

Mom on alert - or at least up and calling. Not sure if she sees Dad and wants a fish, or if there's someone in her airspace.

I've been away from my computer from time to time, but haven't seen any other osprey, and i think this is still Mom on the nest.

Sherri reminded me that if this is our Mom from last year (which we think it is), she is banded with a silver band on her left leg. Not easy to see unless the light is right, but something to watch for.

Mom was on the nest earlier - still no second egg, and no report that her mate has been seen this morning. Here's a different look at her head markings.

She flew off a few minutes ago.
