The students raised money for a new PTZ cam with sound. It will be installed in the tree the week of October 8, 2012.

The nest is near Blair, Wisconsin which is in southwestern Wisconsin near Minnesota and Iowa. The cam and website are a joint project of the third and fourth grade classes at Blair-Taylor Elementary and the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Mn. The students provide pictures, videos and a blog on their webpage http://eagles4kids.com/
Larry and his first mate sucessfully raised eaglets from 2005 to 2010. There were no eggs laid in 2011 and Larry seemed to be mate hunting. In 2012 Lucy and Larry bonded and raised 2 eaglets, Luke and Lilly. As we observed the eagles it became apparent that Lucy was a first time mom. Larry actually had to show her how to feed small pieces of fish to the newly hatched eaglets. It did not take Lucy long to become an expert at feeding and caring for Luke and Lilly. We eagerly look forward to observing the "L" family in 2012-2013. Talon, third grade teacher, often gives us updates. He has seen both eagles in the area but believes the juvies have moved on.

Past experience often shows where there is more than one egg in a clutch generally the first egg hatches
around day 38 with the remaining eggs hatching a bit earlier likely as a result of the cooling periods.

As this is a one egg season it will be interesting to see when this precious egg hatches.

An awesome story has unfolded at the Eagles4Kids nest this season. When we turned the cams on about Nov. 16, 2012, we saw that Lucy had a terrible injury to her right foot. During the season the toes and talons fell off. We attempted to catch her but she avoided the traps. It was determined that she would be allowed to be free. Roadkill deer were authorized by the local/state/and federal wildlife people to be placed in the field below the nest in the adjacent cornfield. Lucy began to spend the night in the nest. There was so much snow in Blair this winter and spring. On March 9, 2013 Lucy laid an egg. She and Larry incubated it for 42 days. We were priviledged to watch Lucy grow stronger and see her injury heal. She defied many prognostications. This morning at 7 a.m. ( 4/20/13) when Lucy moved off the nest bowl there was no egg. A possible explanation is that the egg was not viable and it disintegrated. This is not a report of a nest failure. Lucy was able to be in the nest and get more healing time. We were given the opportunity to monitor her progress. This has been an incredible story and while we would have loved to see Larry and Lucy with another eaglet, this is not a nest failure. This has been a miracle nest and a story of great hope. We have seen how bonded LUcy and Larry are. The Eagles4Kids students had been prepared by Talon for this possibility. Our chatters at Eagles 4 Kids and the posters here have been an incredible group of people. We all have had a part in this story and our love for this nest will continue to next year.

Here are a few snaps from that video.

NOte from Talon concerning installing the new cam.

This is what I know. It looks more and more like we will install on October 26. Mike and I are both available that day. If that changes I will post. It takes several people to pull this off and the "star" need to align. Thanks for everyne's patience. WE will get there soon. I know everyone wants to see and hear the eagles as soon as possible. We do not want any "OOPS" in this. It's not like we can call a lift truck any day of the week. Stay tuned.

Thank you Talon for the update. We can be very patient as we not not want any "OOPS" in this venture.
