Pelican Harbor 2012 - Santa Cruz Island

The parents were both hatched in the San Francisco Zoo (male K10 in 2001 and female K26 in 2002 and then fostered into nests on
Catalina Island; K10 in the Twin Rocks Nest and K26 in the West End Nest.

K26 & K10's Family History Wub

2006 - K26 laid two eggs in 2006; one hatched becoming the first chick to hatch in the wild on the Channel Islands since 1949 [i"Princess Cruz" A49[/i]
fledged and is doing well; Cruz is now paired with A-64; their first nest (Fraser Point Nest) attempt failed
2007 - One chick; successfully fledged A63 (M) "Limuw," died 7 weeks post fledge while scavenging roadkill in Nevada
2008 - Two chicks; A65 "Skye" & A64 "Spirit" - both male; both knocked out of the nest by a juvenile eagle when they were about 6-1/2 weeks old, they were rescued and
taken to the mainland for rehab and later released from hacking tower; Skye later drowned/
2009 - Two chicks hatched but died shortly after hatching from unknown causes!
2010 - Two chicks; A69 Malik and A68 Braveheart (both male); both fledged successfully
2011 - K26 & K10 abandoned original nest ~ built a nest ~ Chinese Harbor area~ abandoned that nest ~ built a nest in Twin Harbors area. They had one chick A74(F)/Karana; fledged successfully.
2012 - K26 laid two eggs; only one survived and hatched; Marcus (M) as named by viewers fledged at 11 weeks and as far as we know is doing well.

2013 Season The birds did not use this nest and based on reports from the IWS team we suspect that Mom K26 and Dad K10 took the year off.
It is possible that that the birds have started to construct a new nest but we have no confirmation of that yet.

The Channel Islands Live - Eaglecam Discussion Forum has an amazing journal on the family history of all the Channel Island eagles; here is the link that provides information on this pair as well as others NI pairs.
