Hatch Timelines

Experience shows that the first egg often hatches around Day 38 and the second egg
hatches abit earlier than Day 38 likely as a result of the "cooling period"
of the first egg thereby promoting a closer hatch of both eggs.

Here are two Face Book sites that support and provide information on Belle, Smitty and the kids that you can
visit if you wish. These two sites are NOT operated by HWF and are independent sites.

Belle and Smitty - Family History - 2011 to

2013 - Two eggs; both hatched and both chicks fledged
2012 - Two eggs; both hatched; chicks were nicknamed Big and Lil and both fledged

Background Information on this beautiful pair.

Belle and Smitty became a couple after Liberty went missing in the spring of 2011; Belle initially rejected Smitty
but this young smitten male refused to give up and eventually his beautiful Belle warmed up to him and she eventually
accepted him as her new mate.

2012 was their first nesting season together and it was very special as Smitty was a first time Dad and we were delighted to see Belle
teach Smitty the ropes. Then we got to observe Smitty nuturing and feeding his chicks for the first time it was a huge milestone for him
and the viewers were mesmerized as well.

The rest of season was just as memorable with lots of first's for both Belle and Smitty ... and the entire eagle community was all in
with the magic of this beautiful pair; Belle and Smitty Wub and we look forward to many more years of happiness for this pair.

Note: Smitty the resident male is called Shep or Ben by some fans & viewers on other forums

I thought I would post some information on the Deer Hunt so that we are aware of the dates:

NCTC Deer Hunt

The National Conservation Training Center has announced its 2012 managed deer hunting program. In order to manage the deer population on campus archery hunting will again be allowed, with gun hunting later in the season.

The dates are as follows: October 6 and 13 – archery; October 20 – Youth and Disabled Hunters (special WV hunting date) - shotgun; October 27 – shotgun; November 24, December 1 and 15 – shotgun; December 8 – muzzleloader. Limited archery hunting will be allowed on most firearms dates. All West Virginia regulations and license requirements apply, and all hunters must have received hunter safety certification. Hunters with disabilities are welcome to participate on all dates and accommodations will be made as needed.

NCTC's Director Jay Slack remarked. "As stewards of the land and wildlife on NCTC's 532 acres, we welcome the opportunity to work with our conservation partners in the hunting community and the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources every year on the NCTC Deer Hunt." The Training Center is looking forward to hosting around 130 hunters over the course of the hunt. "In addition to offering a quality hunting experience, the NCTC deer hunt helps manage the deer population, keeping the herd healthy, while allowing a balance with the plant community and other wildlife that depend on this habitat," explains Jay Slack. "With the assistance of the hunting community, NCTC is better able to successfully manage local wildlife and land in the interest of posterity."

This information is copied as information from the NCTC web site see link below.

There are no new updates posted yet; the last update was posted June 4 2012 just after the young juvies fledged.

http://www.outdoorchannel.com/Conservat ... s2012.aspx

The same message appears on the live cam site!

"Thank you for watching EagleCam in 2012. It is now offline until the winter nesting season. We'll see you in 2013."

The live cam is scheduled to be replaced sometime later this month or possibly into November.
