We would like to thank Alcoa for providing us with this cam. It allows us to have a unique view, complete with it's own perch, so that we might peek into the lives of of this beautiful pair of Bald Eagles.

About Alcoa Davenport Works, Iowa, USA---

Alcoa Davenport Works has a longstanding commitment to the environment
The plant has conducted annual briefings for local environmental groups for the past 20 years
The plant has reduced air emissions by over 97% since 1988
The eagles nesting at Davenport Works hatched and fledged a pair of eaglets in 2010 and a single eaglet in 2011 and triplets in 2012!
The plant installed the original camera in November 2010 and installed a new camera in October 2011. Another new camera was installed at the end of 2012.

A little information about the nest---

The nest is built in an oak tree near the Mississippi River near the Alcoa Davenport Works plant and is about 80 to 85 feet above the ground.
The pair of eagles who "reside" in this nest are beautiful Liberty, the female and handsome Justice, the male.
This nest was originally built in 2009 so it is a relatively new nest.
This pair does not migrate--they remain in the area of the nest all year.

This pair of bald eagles joined the Alcoa Davenport community in Iowa in 2009. They built their 7-foot nest on Alcoa's 400-acre facility in a tree near the Mississippi River. In the spring of 2010 they fledged a pair of eaglets and later that year we installed our first Eaglecam. In 2011 one eaglet named Freedom was fledged from the nest. Alcoa launched a new camera with improved video streaming for the 2012 season and more recently they replaced that cam with another brand new one for the 2013 season. Employees and the community helped name the eagle pair Liberty and Justice.

In the fall and winter Liberty and Justice use the nest to eat and to prepare the nest for the next season. Eagles nesting in Iowa typically lay eggs in late February or early March and the eggs hatch in late March or early April. The eaglets grow quickly and are ready to fly “fledge” in late May or early June. Alcoa is proud that their unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability is helping conserve precious natural resources.

A little information about the 2011-2012 nesting season----

•eggs laid: February 11, 2:54 pm; February 14, 1:30 pm; February 17, 4:40 pm

•eggs hatched: March 19, seen ~6:25 am (37 days); March 21, 9:46 am (36 days); March 24, by 10:30 am (36 days)

•eaglets named: Faith, Hope and Spirit Because of the eventual size of the eaglets, Faith and Hope were most likely females and the smaller, youngest eaglet, Spirit was probably a male.

•fledged: These dates are all approximate ----

Faith--possibly on the 9th or 10th of June
Hope--probably between the 10th and 12th of June
Spirit--most likely either the 12th or 13th of June

Because of the way that the cam is set up it's very hard to tell if the eaglets were branching or if they had fledged.
An observer on the ground said that they had all definitely fledged by June 16th.

I just had a chance to look in on the nest. The new cam seems to be giving us a good picture. I didn't see either of the parents but looking at the condition of the nest and the rails it certainly is obvious that they have been very busy birds! A lot of nestorations have been done to the nest that the triplets managed to do a lot of damage to last season! Grin Some new greens are in the nest to tell other eagles that this nest is taken!
