thank you OWL for the successful release of Oreo and thank you for rescuing him and taking such good care of him!!
On a completely different topic I was talking to some of the ladies at the lunch after his release and they didn't know about the fact that OWL rescued an eaglet from the jericho nest. The actual nest fell out of the tree about a week ago and consequently one of the eaglets was found on Sunday wandering on the road -he was a few days away from fledging and was uninjured but not yet capable of flying. The full report by Keta can be seen on the Jericho thread

Hello Raining22.
Sorry to bother you, but the cam where Miss Jett is has been off since yesterday, one of the chatters was asking if it is broken, or have they stop using the cam, Also everyone is wondering if anyone has seen site of Mr. Oreo, so many people have love them, you know from 7-12-11 to 7-21-11 there views have increased 12,081 when I started viewing it was somewhere around 6,000 or so, I started writing down the views a little before july. currently 33,884 views,
Again I thank you for all you do for Oreo and Miss Jett

Hi Catus! We're going to need to have one of our technical people make a house call to check the computers that run the cam on the Delta 2 nest. We've notified the person who does that, but have not yet heard when he'll be able to do that. We did mention how much we miss being able to see the nest - but it is a weekend, and he may have other commitments that have to take precedence.
I have not heard of anyone seeing Oreo, though a couple of people reported seeing a number of eagles and juveniles in that general area after Oreo was released, and they were hoping one of the ones they saw was Oreo.
We'll be posting any updates about the Delta 2 cam on the thread for the nest - forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=110112

Attention Forum Faithful:
Are you suffering from an acute case of ENS (Empty Nest Syndrome)?
Did you miss the release of Oreo, the eaglet who fell from his nest at Delta 2?
Well I have just the thing for you – OWL is holding a 2nd Open House. It’s in lieu of our Spring Hootenanny which unfortunately had to be cancelled this year. You will be able to tour behind the scenes of the facility from the medical room to some of the pre-release cages not normally open to the public. Also, you will be able to see our Education Birds – 40 raptors, including eagles, owls, hawks, falcons and vultures.
Obviously I cannot make any guarantees, but if I were a betting person I’d wager big time on the chance to see a rehabilitated Bald Eagle (probably a juvenile) being released back to the wild just like Oreo was only a few short weeks ago.
The release will be at 1 pm on both days – now I say “will be” because we just banded 12 of them and I’m 99.99% sure that 2 will be kept specifically for release at Open House.
So come on down to OWL and see what we’re all about. I’ll be there on Saturday and I hope to meet lots of forum members.
The details are:
Saturday, Aug. 27th and Sunday, Aug. 28th
10:00 am to 3:00 pm both days
3800 72nd Street, Delta (next to the Boundary Bay Airport)
Oreo “fledges” from OWL on July 21st

my deepest sympathies to {{{{{{{{{{{{Bev, Ralph, Judy, Ellen, Rob, Martina and all at OWL}}}}}}}}}}}} over the loss of sweet Goldie today. Sooo sad after such a long struggle with her foot.
RIP sweet Goldie, no more pain now

Martina's post on Facebook
"Goldie our permanent education female Golden Eagle, who put fear into our volunteers and staff, has passed away after 20 years at our facility, She was lost under anaesthetic today will undergoing surgery for a ongoing foot problem. She has educated hundereds of people, on Golden Eagles, behaviour, taught young how to hunt, and even pushed some Bald Eagles around in her hay day. She will be greatly missed. Merrit her mate will still be around to continue educating. RIP Goldie"
I would rather spend my life close to the birds than wishing I had wings
We are by nature observers, and thereby learners. That is our permanent state. ~ Emerson
