I would rather spend my life close to the birds than wishing I had wings

Hey Mary
Thank you Mary and yes they were sure cute doing that and lately I noticed how other birds do too. Not to that extent but they do the bob and weave thing, I always find it cute to see

Oh Lori...such good pictures
(BTW - I have not seen Bev lately so have been unable to ask her if she received your card - I have not forgotten about it and will ask her whenever I see her again)
Right now I am really excited because I get to do my first release in about 2 hours! As I write this, I have a juvenile barred owl in a kennel down in my laundry room. I have to keep him isolated from my cats and dog and I figured the laundry room was ideal because it's cool and dark in there and with the door closed there is no chance of any prying noses getting in to take a peek. His return to the wild will take place this evening around 9 pm in White Rock, which is across Boundary Bay from OWL. I was advised to wait until almost sunset to avoid the crows, plus being a barred owl he is nocturnal so he will feel most comfortable at that time of evening. He was found in White Rock not too far from the beach as a baby, sitting on the ground, and not yet able to fly. He probably either fell from his nest or was kicked out for being the runt of the litter. We will never know. What we do know is that he is now strong and healthy, and is ready to take his place in nature just as he was destined to do. It's hard to tell but he may be the one on the left in Lori's first picture. I will be taking pictures and will post them ASAP. I do hope they turn out because I just got a new camera (a D/SLR) and I'm still getting used to it.
Meanwhile at OWL, the main concern is this continuing heat wave. Although the "official" temperature only reaches 22 C (about 72 F) that's at the airport and it's much hotter than that everywhere else. Everyday we change the water bowls, top up the wading pools, and now we're even taking hoses into the cages and spraying the birds down - some seem to enjoy that more than others - if they don't like it then we stop and make a note not to do it again. Most spread out their wings, turn from to side to side, and even start doing a little dance of sorts...it's really cute.
Lori's pictures also showed the 3 amigos (juvie balds) who were moved into field flights today. That is their last stop before release. The 4th juvie (the one being examined) won't be ready for some time yet because it was discovered that he has a broken wing - it looks like a clean break though so hopefully he will recover. I also liked that the never ending task of scrubbing water bowls was shown. And on and on it goes.
So I will say "bye" for now...stay tuned for more about the release.
