WELCOME TO THE 2013 SEASON OF THE HALIFAX OSPREY NEST !

In 2008 Nova Scotia Power and the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History launched the Osprey cam to track the family of Ethel and Oscar and their offspring.. after nesting on a utility pole, power line technicians moved the nest to a safe location where the Osprey have returned to each spring.. for the protection of the birds the actual location of the nest is not released.

An OspreyCam Update from the Dept of Natural History and N.S Power.. June 27, 2012..

HERE

This thread is for the discussion, observations, s'caps and videos of the Osprey..Enjoy...

As a courtesy to viewers with slower internet connections, please limit the pictures in each post to no more than a total of 150,000 bytes (150KB), and please do not post animations (though it's fine to post a link to them). To avoid horizontal scrolling, please do not post pictures that are more than 500 pixels wide - though it's fine to post a 500-pixel-wide thumbnail that clicks to a much larger picture. The forum attachment software conveniently handles that task - so you can attach larger pictures, and a properly-sized clickable image will appear in your post. The preferred format for pictures is JPEG (.jpg), and three 500-pixel-wide JPEGs should be under the 150KB limit.

2012 was a non nesting season at this nest.. the Male Osprey?Oscar initially was seen on the nest and we did see a Female Osprey but we are not sure they were the resident pair from last year,.... as time passed we did see a pair of Osprey from time to time on the nest .. the Male did a lot of nestorating and building the nest over the summer... we feel that the Male and Female bonded and we are hoping they return next year and have a successful nesting season...

An OspreyCam Update 2013
NS Power and the Museum of Natural History are proud to once again bring a real-time view of a local osprey nest to fans around the world. Since 2007, viewers have tuned in online to watch a pair of ospreys happily build their nest and raise their young through spring and summer before flying south each winter, seemingly oblivious to the camera overlooking their nest.

Last year Ethel and Oscar were not around much and reliable sightings of an osprey have been rare since mid-May. NS Power and the Museum of Natural History worked with with the Department of Natural Resources to determine what may have happened to Ethel and Oscar.

Nature is unpredictable. There have been reports of osprey in the area of the nest so we will leave the camera running and see nature unfold. If you have any comments, contact us via Twitter at @nspowerinc or @ns_museum reply with #ospreycam. We'll post more information here as it is available.

NS Power and the Museum are proud of the fan base built by the OspreyCam over the years and we thank everyone for their support for the OspreyCam
