I have the screen up with four nests, two at Sidney and two of the Delta Owl nest. The comparison is frightening.
The Sidney new nest is an engineering wonder. Pa and Ma are great builders, and they can lay their eggs and raise their eaglets in safety.
The Delta Owl nest is barely recognizable as such. I can only hope that the pair do not lay an egg in this nest, in its current condition. The egg would fall right through the loosely intertwined twigs. There isn't even a nest cup.
I think Bev said the Delta pair have tried to build a new nest but it keeps falling apart. What will happen when the female needs to lay her eggs? Will she use the Delta Owl nest just because she has to lay the eggs somewhere, or can she stop the process if there is no safe place to lay eggs?
I, for one, would not want to watch eggs and eaglets in the Delta Owl nest. It would be a heartbreak just waiting to happen.

What will happen when the time comes to lay an egg is the million dollar question to be sure, calypso. No one wants to see them lay in this nest if they don't fix the 'floor'. If you look back through this thread, (begin with the top post on pg. 8) you will find some photos of their attempt to build a second nest taken by Soph9. (Leslie) It was a dismal failure and leaves me, personally, with some hope that they will get down to the business of fixing this nest properly.
It's all the harder to watch what's happening here when we know how well constructed the Sidney nests are. The big difference though is that the Sidney's have many years of experience at nest construction and maintenance. These 2 have very little. If they lay this season it will only be their 2nd clutch. Last season neither of their eggs hatched. This could result in them not laying at all this year.
All we can do is wait to see what happens. If the female is pregnant (does that word apply to egg laying animals?) the instinct to lay may lead her to make repairs here.. or to try and 'make do' with the nest as it is; that was what The Delta 1 pair did last year... with only very limited success thanks to the aid of human intervention.
I hope they decide to make repairs as best they can. I don't know if the female is able to stop the process of developing and laying an egg or not. If David has ever said anything about this I don't remember what he said.

What happened? Looks like a lot of the nest is gone. Camera moved? This is not good.
