How to use more colour in your posts

A tip from JudyB:
Bonus hint - you're not limited to the colors in the dropdown box - try other color names like purple or teal - not all work - but some do!
Just type it into the brackets instead of the word that's there!
Use preview to see the effect it you are not sure!!

Tip from Terrytvgal:
Another way to use the color you want is to enter the hexidecimal code number.

ie: (no spaces between the words, numbers etc within the command brackets I put them there to prevent the code from working)

code: [ color = # FE23F7 ] text [/color]

sample: text sample

Here is a link to an easy hexidecimal color chart

A HTML color hex code chart

Ps from Pat (PEB)
Personally - I like the colour Salmon

How to see a large Media gallery Picture without the ads!

Sometimes you want to see a picture that enlarges to full screen size!
For instance this Wolf picture! Click twice on the thumbnail and it expands to THIS

But that triggers the AD column to overlay it!
Just right click on the picture - click on Properties at the bottom of the sub menu - and copy the address URL - Like This

Then you can paste that address in any window address panel - and view the picture there!

How to Turn Off Notifications

If you're getting an email whenever someone posts on a certain thread - or if you're getting an email whenever someone sends you a PM - and no longer want to receive some or all of those notifications, here's how to turn them off.

Important - do not tag them as spam! That will stop the emails, but may also get us listed as a spam generator - which means that some internet providers will block our site - and no one who uses those internet providers will be able to access the forum, cams or other material on our site. Thanks!

1. One Way to Stop the Notifications from a Single Thread
If you go to most threads, you'll see a link to Subscribe at the top of the page. If it's a thread you've subscribed to, the link changes to Un-Subscribe as shown below; click that, and you'll no longer get notices from that thread.

2. One Way to Stop the Notifications from a Several Threads (or see which threads you've subscribed to)
At the top of every page on the forum, there are a number of tabs, one of which is labeled "Subscriptions" - click that, and you'll see all the threads you're currently getting notices about:
You can either click the "remove" link for a single thread - or click the box at the beginning of any or all lines to add a check mark, then click the trash can at the top to remove several threads at once. Notice there is a drop down list under the row of tabs that defaults to Topic Notifications, which is the most common forum notification - but you may want to check the other two types of notifications in case you have any.

3. How to Stop Being Notified of PMs
Click Account Settings in the upper right part of your screen, then click the Privacy tab
Remove the check mark beside "PM Notifications" and you will no longer receive an email notification when someone sends you a PM
This is also where you choose whether or not you want other users to see a link to send you an email through the forum, and you can also turn off the PM feature so no one can send you a PM.

4. One More Thing to Try
While you're on the Account Settings page described above, click the Forum Preferences tab - and make sure "Always Notify" is not checked.

How to Make a Post

Once you have registered and signed into the forum, you can post your observation or join the discussion on most of the threads by clicking the Post Reply button in the lower right corner:

Once you've typed your message, you can click the Submit button in the lower right corner and it will be added at the end of your current thread.

We do have a couple of practice threads - click this link to go to them - where you can make a practice post - and ask any additional questions. Several of us keep an eye on that area, and will stop by if we see new posts there to see if there are questions.

Enjoy! Smile

How to Adjust Your Settings So You Can See the Fields to Register

We've heard from several people who are having trouble registering because they cannot see all the fields they need to fill in - sort of like this:

The first thing to do is to make your browser window full screen, or as wide as possible, while you are registering.

If that doesn't do it, check to see if your screen is zoomed in to make it easier to view. On many browsers you can undo the standard zooming with CTRL+0 (the number zero). [You can zoom in again when you're done with the Zoom key on your keyboard if you have one, or by using CTRL++ (the Control key and the Plus Sign key)].

The other thing that I found most useful for Internet Explorer is to set the font size to medium if it was on large or extra large:

I found that I could set the font size to medium, then use Zoom to 125% (Zoom is right above Text Size on the View menu as shown above), which may make it easier to read the screen while entering the information.

There should be similar settings for most other browsers, and we'll add additional instructions if necessary.

If these instructions don't solve the problem, please contact us at forumadmin at hancockwildlife dot org (usuing the usual email punctuation in place of "at" and "dot"Wink and let us know what operating system (PC, Mac, other) and browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, other) and we'll see what we can suggest - thanks!

If that doesn't work, please

How to Change your Forum Time

After you've logged in, go to Account Settings

Choose "Layout and Language" from the tabs at the top, then pick your local time zone from the drop-down list of Time Zones.

Click the Save Information button at the bottom of the screen.

You should now see the time at the top of the forum and on the posts in your local time zone.

If you'd prefer to have the forum show the time in British Columbia, Canada, where the nests are located, you can choose

-8, PST (America/Vancouver)

The forum automatically switches to Daylight Saving Time or Summer Time when the time changes in North America; if it changes on a different date where you are (or doesn't change) you may need to pick a different time zone temporarily so it continues to show the time you want.
