Hi Richard * Thanks for your detailed explanations about all aspects of the Sidney cam situation. I have confidence that everything is being done to improve the viewing. Thanks !!
Elle * I love your assessment of the Sidney pair renewing their vows. Well stated.

Quote by: garyandjudy Quote by: IrishEyesThats farmland in the back ground IrishEyes and this is the season to cut down the harvest what ever it may be:question: But I know it's farmland all around the nest and the Epicure building. It's funny that Elle or Kay hasn't told you about the land around the Sidney nest.
Judy, most of the land around and between both nest trees is in it's natural state, with brush, blackberry bushes, tall grass, etc. There are no crops in the immediate area of either of the nest trees. There is a field on the side of the property that is farthest away from West Saanich Rd. That is were we used to see the tractor cutting the hay and the white 'marshmallows' after it had been bailed, through the cam on the Garry oak tree.

Doug, yes Ma & Pa are just like an old married couple; squabbling over the position of the sticks in the nest Ma moves them after Pa has placed them just where he likes them:lol: She always gets her way and then she gives Pa a loving peck

Yes isn't it romantic Why else would they be nestorating and testing the bowl 6 months before nesting time and with the winter storms likely to undo their handiwork in the meantime.
Seeing Ma waiting patiently for Pa to return in his favourite tree is just so endearing. These two are just so special. I hope they/we have a wonderful 2011 nesting season with 2 perfect eaglets. Talons crossed for that.
(P.S. No eagles seen in Oak Bay yesterday. It doesn't look like any of them are back yet. Did see that juvenile grey whale that has been hanging around the Golf Course shoreline though That was pretty exciting. )

Doreen, Don't work to hard my friend. I'm working this week-end too. If I see Ma or Pa before I leave for work I will post them.
I have a question about the loud continuous noise heard on the live cam view. Can anyone tell me what that noise is? I know there are birds, but this sounds different.

There are many potential sources of "hum" (which is what I can hear in the background of the audio from the camera)
It can be caused by something as silly as having the plug in the wall backwards (if no ground pin and the two connectors are the same size - not the case in this installation)
It can be caused by water getting into one of the connectors and causing a "ground" at that point, separate from the ground at the main connection
It can be caused by local power lines and a change in the draw of power to one spot over another.
But no matter what the cause, you notice it because the amplification of the system is turned up enough that it "shows through" the other sounds the system is picking up, especially when there is nothing close-by the microphone.
I've turned the gain (volume) down a bit. This means the background sounds from quite a distance from the nest will not be quite as evident, but it will not stop sounds close to the microphone from being heard.
