Welcome to the Lochside Eagles thread. There are 2 nests in this general area: one nest is on Lochside Drive which runs parallel to the Pat Bay Highway and is known as the Lochside Drive nest. The Lochside Drive eagles successfully fledged two eaglets in each of the previous two summers. The Lochside Drive eagles are often seen perched in the tall trees along Lochside Drive near their nest.

The other nest is on a side road beside the Pat Bay Highway at the south end of the Victoria Internatiional Airport and is known as the South Airport nest. It is thought that this is a relatively new nest and the eagle pair are young. They have not produced any eaglets the past two years and the nest now looks like there has been no effort at re-building. These eagles are quite often seen perched in trees beside the ocean on Lochside Drive close to the Town of Sidney.

Information and photos of these two nests and the eagles that inhabit them can be found in the old forum here: Lochside Eagles Please feel welcome to post your write-ups and photos of these nests and the eagles that inhabit them whenever you see them.

I visited the 2 Lochside eagle nests yesterday afternoon. One of the South Airport eagles was perched in the usual tree down by the water's edge. It's head feathers were blowing in the wind and I noticed some of it's wing feathers looked oddly out of place. It might have been drying out after fishingPuzzled It did fly off over the water and I saw it off in the distance heading for its nest area. Here are 3 pix of the S. Airport eagle. Click bigger.

wave Marg, thanks. I have never seen these eagles with their feathers sticking out but it could have been preening and just hadn't spread its wings to readjust its feathersRoll eyes

Here are a few pix of the Lochside Dr. eagles; they were both in their nest doing some nestorating when I arrived. In the 1st pic Mom is in the nest behind Dad; in the next 2 pix Dad is in the nest and Mom is on the right hand side of the nest. Click them bigger.

I went by the Lochside Dr. nest yesterday and there were no eagles in sightRoll eyes An eagle was perched in a tree right beside the road on Lochside Dr. opposite the beach, a short distance away from the Anacortes ferry terminal. I believe this eagle was the female from the South Airport nest. The male from the S. Airport nest was perched in a tree by the water on Lochside Dr. at the intersection of McTavish Rd. Here are a few pix of the female. Click them bigger.
