WooHoo. Sneaky little devils. I had given up on them.

I will be at the playground Sunday afternoon for a birthday party. Will try to wander a bit and try to find the tree.
I will have may camera with me for sure. Guess I'll have to break down and learn how to post photos, if I get one.

Good news!! I have heard from my park contact and he said the eagles are nesting in the same site as last year, near the park service building. They have hatched at least 2 chicks according to the staff. They have also been feeding in the Southeast woods; they drop seagull parts into the nursery quite often.

I'll be away for a few weeks but will visit the park when I return from my vacation after May 12th. If you visit the park and see the eagles, please post your comments and pictures.

calypso, if you were seeing only one eagle it was because they had eggs in the nest and one was always incubatingWink

One eagle was perching atop a light standard at Ogden Point at 2 PM this afternoon. There were 2 cruise ships in port so they got a bit of a bonus. The "Town Crier" had mentioned it a few times, he told me.

Our birthday picnic was moved to indoors (my living room) on account of rain on Apr 24. A few days later I walked over to BHP and tried to find the nest. No luck. The trees aren't that tall, so I thought it would be easy.

Saw the eagle nest today with an adult in the nest but no eaglets visible. I didn't have my camera with me, unfortunately, but the nest is not situated anywhere near the park service building as previously reported. Perhaps there are two nests in the park . Nevertheless I will return with my camera anon to document its whereabouts.

elle, there have been several nests in the park over the years. They started building a nest by the nursery off Cook St. a couple of years ago but didn't finish and it was thought the Cooper's Hawks took over the nest. Last year the eagles started building the nest across from the kids' playground but didn't have any young. My reference to the parks service building is the one next to the washrooms, which is where Paul has his office. Fred's office is in the building by the nursery. Fred looks after the plants and Paul looks after the trees. This year parks employees have reported seeing 2 little heads in this same nest across from the playground and have seen the adults feeding them.

That would be the one, sassyk. Quite close to where there was one for years near the bandshell. I didn't realise there was a service building there, too. I thought they were all down by the lawn bowling green where, as you know, the eagle pair were often perched a few years ago. I was sorry I chose not to take my camera yesterday, after all, but there will be other opportunities and it doesn't look easy to get a good view and snap of the nest where it is situated.

I stopped at the park on my way home from the Oak Bay nests yesterday morning and an adult eagle was in the nest. It appeared to be feeding a chick but the light was not good from the spot where I could get a decent pic. Here is a pic of the nest taken from the rose garden and you can see the back of the adult's head. Click bigger.
