The main camera was knocked out by bad storms last night. This view is from their back-up cam.

5:20PM--The back up cam is back on the air. I can just barely see a chick in front of the parent--probably Mom.

Thanks Priscillish for the video...

Thanks Mary for letting us know about the storm and the main cam being down... and now the back up cam is back up...

4.20 I am really not here yet...Rolling on floor laughing Just returned home from my boogie time at the Hollywood Bowl. Holy Moly... what a concert last night. But I just HAD to record a feeding...

Video Camera http://youtu.be/PQy9rO3K-xs

Here are some scaps of the feeding..

Chicks are going at it... but the younger one fights a good fight back... eventually backs down... but is super strong and willful... I have a feeling the second hatch might be a female... based on ??? Hunch!!! LOL Seriously... will explain another time... when I have more time... I need some recovery time from last night... hehe

Martha arrives with a new fishy.

Mom picks up the new prey and dad cruises to the left of the nest and eventually flies off.

cont.
Mom continues to feed older let.

Younger let just watches away... They get into some more squabbles... but younger let is not easily intimidated...

Younger one (I say younger as opposed to little because she/he is basically the same size as first born) from what my eyes can see... Although my eyes do deceive me at times. Let me know what you all think... Smile

ETA: Younger let did not get any bites this feeding, but I am willing to bet....hmmmm... let's see.... my next Cold Play concert tickets... that younger WILL eat at the next feeding... Rolling on floor laughing

BBL (maybe) but for sure first thing in the morning. Smile

Good s'caps from that back up cam, JudyL!! That's the very first time that I have seen George. It's nice to know that he's around! Whistling

I thought that you would be gone longer. Do you live near L.A.?

Can't wait to hear your theory on why you think the younger chick is a female! Titter

Thank golly for this backup cam, huh? If it is affordable... all cams should come with a back up cam... as something usually goes haywire.

Thanks Mary. It was really good to see George taking care of the twins while mom was out shopping... I saw your post wondering about dad... I realized that I haven't even spoken about him or scapped him with all the excitement with the hatchings so close and then I got concerned about that possible abrasion... that I just haven't been able to see again, nor has anyone else seen it, that I didn't post of his arrivals, deliveries and how mom vocalizes just before he arrives and a bit just afterwards.

The cam had been zoomed in so close since the beginning of the first hatch and basically up until I skipped town for my boogie time... LOL, so even though I could hear dad landing on the nest and seeing new food... I just didn't mention him... Out of sight, out of mind... ?!!!!

Yes, I live near LA (2 hours away). I lived in LA (not from there... born and raised in Ohio) for about 25 years.

You asked to know my theory why I think the younger chick is female... is speculation, of course... But... when she/he (LOL) was finally free of its shell... HER head was huge.. could have been angle at the time. But... now the twins seem to be the same size. I do not have official/exact hatch times, but I do believe they are about 12 hours apart...give or take a few.... ???? Anyone know anything different... please advise. Before the main cam went down... the only way I could decipher between the two eaglets was coordination ability... with the oldest being more coordinated and steady, of course.

Another reason that I think the second hatch could be female is from watching the fighting ... Wolf 2 does not back down easily and fights a very good fight... has even initiated pecking. She usually eventually surrenders... but not by the feather on her chinny chin chin. LOL However, I only got to witness this today...

I am fresh off the Richmond nest where R1 really beat up R2 to the point where we were unsure that he was still alive. R2 never really fought back... always just surrendered... ((18 hoursish apart) but the size difference was HUGE... (no pun intended...LOL) Because of the circumstances, the chicks were taken out of the nest and supplemented with food, and at the same time determined the sex. R1 is female and R2 is male...From what I understand, females are much more aggressive than males. ETA... AFter the chicks were given fluids and food, they were placed back in the nest.

We will never know for sure, unless they band here... do you know if they will be doing that?

I hope that answers your inquiring Mind... wants to know Titter

Scaps from earlier..
