The webcam is recording and a pair of mating Ospreys are back and are currently sitting on eggs.

(Note: I don't see the cams using Firefox but do with Internet Explorer; have not tried other browsers. One cam is online now, the other is expected to be added by mid-April.)

2012 Season:
The webcam is recording a pair of mating Ospreys on the Grand River in Breslau. The eggs should arrive soon and incubate 4 6 weeks. The young Ospreys will stay on the nest 2 months before migrating south. These birds are one of the most active and interesting raptors to observe. Enjoy!

The adults are known as Zeus and Hera. There were three chicks in 2010, with the first egg was laid on 4/27/10 and the first hatch on 6/3/10; all three fledged successfully.

Unfortunately 2011 was a sad year. Intruders kept the pair from nesting successfully, and then the female Hera was lost to an electrical transformer.

Here's hoping Zeus finds a new mate, and they have a successful nesting season in 2012.

2012 Season:

  • cam on:
  • adults back:

The nest was damaged early in the season and it looks like the pair did not nest in 2012.

Thanks for setting up a new season Judy.

Some birds in the US appear to be about a week ahead of the usual egg laying time so here's hoping Zeus and a new lady friend show up soon in Breslau.

So far no birds have been seen at the nest in Breslau. Other areas close by have males sitting claiming the territory but nothing reported around the Grand at all.

Still lots and lots of time, the weather has been so warm we expect them to come home but the usual time for this nest is the end of Mar. Sit tight, they have a long way to travel and it takes a bit.

Still only crows and 1 red tail hawk stopping by the nest. Most of the other females in the area are back on the other nests with males now.

Doubt Lisa and Bill will turn the camera on if the osprey don't come back though they had planned on it thinking there would be a pair in Breslau. Lisa had said he camera would be on as soon as the birds came home.

All we can do for now is sit and wait to see if Zeus or some other pair take over for the 2012 season.

Camera is up and running, 2 birds seen in the nest yesterday but man it needs a whole lot of work before we're going to get eggs I think, or I hope.
