wave Hi Bev and Karen, thanks for you complimentsNodding Karen, I know what you mean about shooting into the light at that nestRoll eyes You have to be there at the right time of day for the specific time of year when the sun is on the nest. There's either too much or not enough light most of the time, but at least you saw one of the eaglesLeft thumb up

Great pictures and information sassyk!

Quick question-What is the longest length lens you are using? Later this spring or early summer we would like to come down to Victoria and get some pictures/videos of the resident eagle population. To get pictures like yours I think we may need a longer focal lenght lens and we might have to start thinking about saving money for the lens Left thumb up

Hi Bret, I use a Canon Digital SLR Rebel XTi camera with a Canon 300mm telephoto zoom lens. Let me know when you are planning your visit and perhaps we could meet at one of the nests.

Hi Kay,

We come down to Victoria from up island every week so it would be easy to arrange a meet from our perspective. We would probably wait a month or so until there is more daylight in the evening hours. Now that I think about it the time change is coming up real quick!

We stay overnight every 2nd week we are down there and we stay close to Esquimalt so it would be easy to see that nest anyway. We will give you some dates in the future when we will be down and see if it works out for everyone for a get together.

Thanks for your offer and the camera information.

Cheers,

Bret

waveHi Saxe Point eagle lovers Rolling on floor laughing

I went to Saxe Point today with the dog. Both MA & PA were there, one in the nest when we arrived and another swooping in with a large stick to restore the nest. I met a lady who said that they did have eggs/eaglets last year but lost eggs/eaglets to a crow raid. She said she was there when it happened and it is very credible as they are always being harassed by crows. They appear to be nesting this year by their behaviour around the nest - one on the lookout branch and one in the nest. As you can see, the first one was taken into the light and is not as clear as the other 2 where I had the light behind me. It was about 1:30 PM.

Hi Karen,
Great pixLeft thumb up That's an interesting story about the crows; I have never heard of crows attacking the eggsOh My The crows are always harassing the eagles but I'm not sure they would attack the eggs, especially if the eagles were at the nest. What might have happened is that the eagles stepped on the egg(s) in their attempt to protect them or to scare the crows away. I'll ask my contact from WiTS if he knows but he has not said anything about it in the pastPuzzled Let's hope they have eaglets this yearLeft thumb up

I went to Saxe Pt. Park yesterday afternoon. When I arrived Dad was perched at the top of a nearby tree and Mom was in the nest. I was halfway up the trail on the rock bluff and had taken only a few pix of Dad when Mom flew out of the nest and off across the harbour. Dad was right behind her. There are so many big trees in the area that I couldn't get a clear shot of them flying off. If I had gone down to the rocks by the beach I would have got much better pix but they flew away so soon after I got thereRoll eyes I went down to the lookout area at the end of the park and waited for half an hour and they didn't come back. Here are a couple of pix of Dad (cropped a lot). Click them bigger.
