Ed, we got that cool spell! Thank you so much for wishing it. I also found my birding map that you mentioned, in with other maps.

Sandra, my daughter just found a baby copperhead in her home, under her toddler's chair (like an armchair). Needless to say that freaked her out. Going to put up screens on the foundation.

That is scary with that snake - I guess very very dangerous, means very very poisonous?
Yuck,
carolyn

yes copperheads are indeed poisonous. I once found a small snake in my house, and in a stroke of genius (knowing I was not going to bed until it moved out of the house) I VACUUMED IT UP!!!! and took the vacuum outside having covered the wand with foil.....and the next day took the whole thing to the woods and released the snake!!!

Josephine, that is brilliant! You did not harm the snake and they are important to the environment.

The snake I was referring to in my post was the Eastern Brown Snake in Australia and I have since goggled it and found it is the #2 most dangerous snake in the world. Certainly having that come into the bathroom is not a good thing (which is where it was).

eta.....My husband and I went to Aransas and then Ed went and our pictures are posted previously to his. It is worth the trip in Crane season - up through March.

Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, 4-27-12. This is an annual event every spring that draws lots of tourists to the tulip fields west of Mount Vernon, Wash. And it’s a whole lot cheaper then flying to Holland. Click to enlarge.

Hi Carolyn: Well, if you’re Dutch, you’d love the town of Lynden, Wash., about 20 miles east from where we live. The town was settled by the Dutch, and the Dutch influence persists. The post office is known as the postkantoor (sign on building) and the best breakfast in town is at the Dutch Mothers Restaurant, where there are a dozen varieties of pannekoeken. Yum.

Lighthouses on the Oregon and Northern California coasts, 5-8 to 5-14-12. I grew up near a lighthouse in Mukilteo, Wash., and have always enjoyed visiting them and learning about their history. We had planned this trip since returning to the Pacific Northwest. I’ll eventually post some photos in the Pacific Northwest trails thread about some hikes and wildlife near the lighthouses. Click all photos to enlarge.
