OnTuesday I saw one eagle perched in a tree opposite the Shoreline nest and the other one was in the nest tree (was unable to take a pic and on the way back no sign of them).Mad No eagles were seen in the Seaview nest.

Today, saw both the Stalashen eagles - one in the nest one in the tree.Grin

March 24 1:33p.m.

Beautiful sunny day and a very low tide at Davis Bay so we walked out onto the sand close to the water and could see the Stalashen nest from a distance. Click 2X for bigger.

Then we drove around to the Stalashen Nest. I took these pictures we parked near the fire hydrant on the right and I walked back a little ways. I could clearly see Ma or Pa brooding on the nest. Here are a couple of pictures. When I got back to the car I saw the other adult fly by, they had been calling to each other, but no time to take a picture.Sad

Hello Marg, I still haven't even looked at pictures taken Wed and since! Still catching up with happenings on the Forum and in my email after being sick.
Good nest pictures from the beach! Where on the beach were you? I was there yesterday and then at the nest site likely 12:30-1:00. I was on the beach off Mission Point Park but didn't go on the rocky part. Someone was flying a kite on the beach, a young woman was taking pictures of a toddler. While at the nest, an adult was sitting in the tree, flew out between my getting into the car and leaving. Oh My Just missed the flyoff
again. Sad

Hello Back again with pictures taken Sat, March 24, around 1:30. I found no eagle activity in Davis Bay so drove to the nest deciding that if there was no adult there I would wander the beach on that side of the creek. I could not see a head in the nest but did find an adult standing guard very near the nest. love
The first picture is to show the adult in relation to the nest.

Then some closer ups. Laugh

While I was taking the pictures I was speaking with a very nice gentleman who has lived there and followed the nest tree for 15 years. He said that recently he saw one of the adults fly into the water to grab a fish, swim to shore then sit on the beach eating. The second adult flew down and they shared the meal on the beach. Must have been a good sized fish!

Three years ago when the nest blew down leaving 2 juvies on a branch as you have described Marg, the bigger one was able to fly off but the smaller one wasn't ready to fly yet. He saw an adult fly in with prey, lean back onto the tree trunk and hold the prey onto the branch so the smaller one could get at it. You saw the adults feeding both of them through the telescope but I found the technique he described very interesting. Then the adults left leaving the smaller one still on the branch. Apparently it cried for food for a couple of days then the bigger one flew in with a gull which they shared and the smaller one flew off with its sibling. Red Heart

He used to live on South Trail Island where he thought he was watching a training session of some kind with an adult flying ahead of about 20 juvies, another adult bringing up the rear. I mentioned that perhaps the adults were escorting them north to find salmon, asked if it was mid July to mid August and he thoughtfully replied it could have been. Of course I told him about David Hancock and mentioned that it sounded like they could swap some good tales. Titter

A very interesting outing, in the sun! Left thumb up

Thank you Sandra for the pictures you've posted from the Stalashen Nest, once again they are great - so clear.Cheers I like the sentry postition and the preening.Grin It's always very interesting when the immediate neighbours relate their experiences from watching the eagles from the area. Yes, when the nest blew down one eaglet had branched but the other one hadn't - we were quite worried but we saw that they were being well looked after by Ma and Pa. That would have been interesting to watch them being fed up close. I believe that the adult eagles withhold food to encourage the young ones to fly from the tree. That must have been a sight to see when the 20 juvies were being escorted north.Laugh Does that man have any pictures?

Here is a picture of the Stalashen Nest Tree - after the nest blew down July 13, 2009.Cry
