Maine II - 2012 - Bald Eagle Cam
BRI link - http://www.briloon.org/oae/webcams/eaglecam2
UStream Link - http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nextera-maine-eaglecam-2
Note - this is not the Maine 2 Cam we watched in 2009 & 2010 - last we heard, that pair had likely built a new nest to replace the one that was lost when their nest tree fell over in fall 2010 after the eaglets fledged - but there's no cam tracking them. BioDiversity Research Institute is calling this cam, which came online in spring 2011, EagleCam 2 - so I am following their lead. The Maine forum refers to this nest as EagleCam 2B, to make it easier to avoid confusing it with the original EagleCam 2 (which they're now referring to as 2A).
The cam is located somewhere Maine, and because it is on private property, BioDiversity Research Institute (BRI) has chosen to not be more specific than to say it's in coastal Maine. The cam has night vision, and appears to have sound, although that seemed to come and go.
2011 was the first year for this camera, and it came online in mid-April; one of the adults spent a lot of time sitting on the nest, but we never saw any eggs - don't know if they did have some and lost them, or what the pre-camera story might be. We're hoping to learn more about this pair - and perhaps see some chicks - in 2012.

JudyB's s'cap - April 16, 2011
Based on other nests in the general area, look for eggs in the last half of March, chicks towards the end of April, and fledging in late July.

The cam has been down for a while, which is why I hadn't set up a thread for it - but it's back online, and it sounds from the chat on UStream as if someone saw one of the eagles.
I unfortunately won't have time to watch today - and no one was home when I looked. Here's a s'cap from a about 2:30 pm eastern time.

Cam had switched to night vision - and the eagles stopped by! First time I've seen them this year.

One left right after I took the second s'cap, the other left a couple of minutes later after rearranging a couple of small sticks.

As far as I can tell, no one has seen any eagles visit in the last week or so - though there is a squirrel who stops by occasionally. This s'cap is from earlier today.

A bit of snow today - might make it easier to see if there are visits when we aren't watching - but it's supposed to warm up on the weekend, so the snow probably won't last very long.

Snow has melted quite a bit. The squirrel made a visit. I've had the cam up much of the day and have seen no sign of eagles. Hopefully they're having a nice vacation and will be visiting more often as nesting season approaches.

Cam has been down for several days, and just came back online. The one good thing about the pile of snow in the nest is that we'll see eagle tracks if they visit!

Thursday, January 19, 2012
We saw two visits on the 19th - things are looking up here!
The first picture is courtesy of Sherri on the Maine forum, from 8:51 am

The second is mine, from 4:43 pm, after the cam had switched to night vision
