10:11 The eaglets are sleeping. The naming contest is over and the eaglets have been named:

Oldest chick is Faith
Second born chick is Hope
The youngest is Spirit.

Note I will often refer to them as F, H and S.

F, H, and S--Good idea, Donna! too much typing and I'm not overly fond of the names! Whistling At least the oldest one has what could be a female name unlike E4K.

From Alcoa:

More than 70,000 people took the time to vote over the last week for the names for the eaglets in the nest here at Alcoa. The winning names are:

Faith (oldest) 29,696 votes

Hope (second hatched) 30,537 votes

Spirit (youngest eaglet) 35,986 votes

We want to thank everyone who took the time to vote and leave their comments here and on the Alcoa Facebook page.

Dad with our three big eaglets--H at the top, F in the middle and little S is under the branch.

F+H are shoulder to shoulder--S is still under the branch.

Faith and Hope are resting, but Spirit is wanting some of what the parent has. S does get a few bites. Hope is up and looking around. H is getting more and more dark feathers.

10:09 The eaglets are watching or napping. Faith has so many dark feathers now. I never thought I would see this nest flatten out since the nest bowl was so deep and steep. But it is now.

A message from the CEO of Alcoa

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Alcoa CEO Talks Eagles
I just had a look at the EagleCam blog and I'm floored. The bald eagle, which has inspired Americans for centuries, continues to inspire the current generation of Americans. Very neat to read the blog posts and to get a sense of how much these majestic birds mean to people - not just for national pride, but for their important place in nature. It's been just five short years that the eagle has been off the endangered species list, and it reminds us how fragile and precious our ecosystems are. I know our colleagues at Alcoa Davenport feel really lucky to "host" the new eaglets and their parents and to be part of this renewal. I feel proud too, especially to work for a company that so cherishes the natural environment, and with my fellow Alcoans who work every day to protect and preserve it!

-Klaus Kleinfeld, CEO, Alcoa

Late afternoon--I'm always concerned when I see F and H over in this area of the nest -9 to 11- where there are no rails . The only thing there is that pile of grass that one of the parents brought in the other day. At least S tends to stay under the branch, near the trunk.

About 8PM--With her head molting, Mom looks very sleek headed--almost bald. She is settling the kids for the night.

Eaglets alone for the night. I would bet that Mom and/or Dad are just out of sight.
