Welcome to the Central Vancouver Island Wildlife - Other Than Eagles thread where photos of wildlife, other than eagles, seen in parks, on trails, at lagoons and wildlife sanctuaries/estuaries, in ponds, etc. in the Central Vancouver Island area, can be posted for everyone to enjoy. Anyone who visits an area on Central Vancouver Island and has photos of wildlife they see is welcome to post their photos here on this thread, with a description of the area where the wildlife was photographed. General discussion of the various wildlife in the photos is welcome. You are welcome to post links to websites for specific areas, if they are available. You will find information and photos of wildlife in areas on Central Vancouver Island in the old forum here:

The sea lions are showing up at Vancouver island, as they do every year at this time. This group was seen barking and sunning themselves on a log structure today at Fanny Bay, on Highway 19A (between Courtenay and Qualicum.)

I believe these are California sea lions; the bulls come north to B.C. after the breeding season, and follow the herring spawn.
