Kay, I was just checking out the beautiful photos you have posted. The wildlife in the photos and the composition is wonderful. Are these photos taken with your new lens and camera? The young swans attract other smaller waterfowl, they seem to form bonds. I know the Mute Swan cygnet I observed got along very well with the ducks and geese. The last time I saw the immature Mute Swan it had formed a bond with a Canadian Goose. I love your photo of the young Swan and all the small waterfowl around it. Again thanks for the beautiful nature shots you bring to us my friend.

Linda, I'm still using my Canon EOS Rebel camera until I get my Canon EOS 7D in May, after we get back from our cruise to Hawaii. I am using my new Sigma 50- 500mm lens and I'm loving it, even though I've been out only twice since I got it. I'm hoping to get out today, but we don't have any sun yet

Here are a few pix I took yesterday while I was in Saxe Pt. Park. The 1st one is Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse, which is adjacent to Esquimalt Lagoon, which you can see in the far distance. The next 2 are a female Northern Flicker; they have beautiful wing & tail feathers. Click bigger.

Kay, Nice photos of the flicker. I’ll be looking forward to pictures from your new camera. How heavy is the 50-500? Do you get tired of carrying it if you’re out on a trail or in a park for a long period of time? Thanks for including the Fisgard Lighthouse and Fort Rod Hill. That’s one of my favorite lighthouses with excellent displays inside. I think most visitors to Victoria only have time for Butchart Gardens and the Empress, and they don’t see some of the other highlights of your charming city.

Ed, thanks. Yes, the lens is heavy but it has a very sturdy tripod collar that swivels so you can carry it. I usually cradle it in my arm when I'm walking around; I believe Linda does that as well. It also has a long strap that you can attach to the tripod collar and that way you can put it around your neck and under one arm, which takes the weight off your neck. There's no doubt it's a lot heavier than my Canon 300mm lens but I was well aware of that before I bought it; I can't complain
