Some of the mute swans and bufflehead ducks at Esquimalt Lagoon Jan. 2nd. The buffleheads don't usually come so close to shore but it was a very windy day and the tide was so high. Click 2X bigger.

There was 1 male common Merganser duck with several females at the shallow end of the lagoon on Jan. 2nd. What a wild hairdo on one of the females. Click 2X bigger.

Hi Kay: Enjoyed the Mergansers and Buffleheads. Colors sure come out on a sunny day.

HelloThanks Ed. I've seen a lot of Mergansers lately in Sidney, Pat Bay, Oak Bay & Saxe Pt.

Ring-necked ducks are back in Beacon Hill Park. This one was upset after being chased by a male mallard.

The ring-necked duck at Beacon Hill Park quickly swam away from the male mallard, still protesting the attack. Henry Heron was perched in his tree with 2 of his pals. Click 2X bigger.

The ducks were all preening, bathing and chasing each other around in the ponds at Beacon Hill Park yesterday. I had fun with a pair of Northern Shovelers, trying to catch a few winks and later frolicking and diving around the fountain in the middle of the lake. Click 2X bigger.
