8:16pm...........Hello everyone! I just got here after missing all of yesterday and today until now........got bogged down at work. It is so nice to come online and see that you all have been keeping up with our little family. I have just finished reading your observations and they give a good idea of what has been going on. I think I also could see 2 babes in your video, gd, so many thanks for posting it! It was very wet here today and is supposed to be again for a couple of days from now. Poor Mom is in the nest right now looking sort of drenched but I guess they are used to this!

I am amazed at how light it is at this time of night. It was not long ago that it was pitch black at this time and we could not see a thing!

8:24pm........I'm out now but hopefully tomorrow I will get back to my usual routine and be able to watch for longer! Goodnight! Good night

Good morning!

6:30 am
Breakfast is served! Note that while Mom and the nest are quite wet, the chicks are fluffy and dry! It was a nice feeding, with bites being offered to each in turn. The chicks are 4 and 6 days old now.

Video Camera Breakfast on a Rainy Morning (2 minutes)

Watching the video again after learning a third chick likely hatched on April 24 in the late afternoon, I think there is a brief glimpse of the third chick in the video, to the left of the tree.

1:07 pm
The cam is back!

I was just watching a feeding, and it was hard to see much of anything, because the adult (I think a still-wet Mom) was reaching behind the tree to feed. I did see a chick on the left of the tree trunk, kind of bobbing and tumbling around.

So here's my problem. I don't think there are more than two chicks. But while I didn't get a good look at the bobbing chick on the left, it didn't look as big as the two I saw this morning - and looked as if it was having trouble staying upright. Puzzled

If - and it's a really big if - if there was a third egg, and the egg laying and hatches followed the same pattern as last year, this morning would have been a likely time for that egg to have hatched.

Still, I've been watching for egg rolls the last few days, and really haven't seen anything that wasn't equally likely to be chick-tucking-in behavior.

Guess we continue to wait and see!

Added -
Dad stopped by while I was typing - I think Mom may have sent him out for groceries. And no s'caps or video to go with my observations above - I was too focused on trying to see the chicks behind the tree. (Did you know that it really doesn't help to try to look from different angles...?)
