Just saw a little bobblehead, yoohoo! I see it's old news here, you guys are quick! Are we calling this a today hatch or yesterday? Here's a scap, best I could catch of the little one but definitely bobbling! love

My inclination is to call it a hatch today, Twizzkid.

There was behavior yesterday that suggested a hatch was in progress - but unless I missed something, I didn't see any of the key indicators of a completed hatch, such as:
- piece of shell removed from nest
- food being delivered but not eaten
- food being offered to a chick, whether or not we can see it

We can - and have - had hatches occur without any of those indicators. And some Dads are so eager that they bring food at the first tiny internal peep, which may occur a day or two before the hatch is complete. But unless someone who hasn't been able to post yet has additional information, I think the chick probably hatched this morning, and was first seen at 1:27 pm. Smile

Well, I guess this is where I admit that sometimes my first inclination isn't my final inclination. very embarrassed
Having read back through the posts on the 19th, and checked my records from last year, where the first egg hatched on the 37th day - and thinking about how well the chick was doing at standing up and not falling over when we first had a good look at it - I now think the first egg hatched on the 19th, probably in mid afternoon, about the same time as the first hatch at White Rock. It was reported that the adult on duty was sitting higher on the nest by 4 pm, which is common when there's a chick, and noted that the parent was not looking down so much - which may be because the new chick was quietly sleeping after the work of hatching. Thanks to Pat B, gemini, and the other observers who noted what I missed. Left thumb up

9:58pm All is quiet on the nest and the AN rails are empty. I'm thinking that in this low light it may be easier to see our pale grey bobblehead(s) if mom would just get up to give us a peek.

10:06pm well she is up but is keeping her back to the camera and there is no chance for a peek. She is rocking to get comfy, and now faces 12oclock.

I'll look in again in an hour or so.

Thanks for this photo from Martin Passchier. It also shows the close-up cam we have in the nest that is not working. We hope to get that fixed when we do the next cam maintenance in August after the eagles have migrated northward. So, hopefully, next year we will know exactly what is happening in this nest and when.

Beautiful picture - thanks Martin, and thanks for posting it Karen! And I do hope we can finally chase off the gremlins that keep getting in the way of the second cam - I'd love to see the tiny bobbles. love

Thanks Judy for the clarification! Boy I pretty much watched the nest all day and between cam locking Bash computer and just how hard it is to see into the nest, it's no wonder there is confusion. (although so glad we have the nest to watch!). I was hoping to get a clear scap of 2, (dang it I didn't), and instead saw a lot of a parent looking down intently, while on the nestbowl, which I've only seen happen when there is a hatch underway ???. No idea if that means anything or not. Puzzled I watched the videos again and there sure is a case for 2, my old eyes just aren't seeing them. So I guess I'll just have to keep watching and waiting..if nothing else they'll get tall enough to see for sure happy Or did I miss where someone got a good scap and it's a case of old brain rather than old eyes? Cool

All appears well at Lafarge. Dad is on the AN and Mom is on the nest.
