BEV, you know I never mind posting from my videosTitter

The resident male on return from migration started adding nesting material, as would be expected. When the resident female didn't return on time the male focused on defending his nest and attracting a new mate....a lot of work for him. It did appear there was, as often happens, another male trying to take the nest..or even a female trying to get on the nest and being rejected:dunno:

The male's mantling is not ignoring the female, just warning other males to stay away, very normal behavior.

Hope all will go well and the nest will produce youngfingers crossed

I agree that seems promising. It would be a possibility that in a few days acceptance might come, don't you think? Ospreys are fascinating!

Jazzel thanks for the explanation, it makes a lot of sense.

Hi Bev,
Just watched the video that Jazzel posted. Yes, Oscar is acting the same way as Mom Hellgate... Mantling when another osprey is on the nest with them. The only difference with Hellgate is that Mom is working hard getting the nest prepared. She is always bringing in new branches, bark, and bedding. She is even trying out the egg bowl for size with each new batch of bedding. It is sad that both nests have probably lost a mate. All we can hope for is that they both find new mates and we have a successful season with little chicks.hug

Herringman 1 - Thank you for that report which I just searched out to read. I can see it in my mind's eye and feel so badly for Oscar. He must be so anxious.

Hugs to all of you who watch this nest.
