If you have trouble viewing the cam, make sure you have Windows Media Player on your computer.Lake Washington

This nest is located in a 100 foot tall Douglas fir tree a new day/night camera installed in 2009 is providing streaming video. We extend our appreciation to the landowner’s invitation and cooperation to share the unique views and interactions of a dramatically situated bald eagle nest. Lake Washington is in the northwest corner of Washington state, not far from Seattle.

This cam was new in 2008, and there were two chicks that year, one of which fledged successfully and the other which died of unknown causes when it was 8-1/2 weeks old (the cam was refresh-only the first year, making it harder to see what was happening in the nest). They successfully raised and fledged two chicks in 2009, 2010 and in 2011. However, one of the chicks died just after fledging see note below.

Based on previous experience, look for eggs in mid-March, chicks in late April, and fledging in mid July.

Update July 2011
The young eagles, are in the process of fledging, which involves the mastering of flight and dealing with all of the natural hazards of flying in an urban environment. Unfortunately the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified on July 12, 2011 that one of the fledgling eagles was found dead near the nest tree with no visible injuries to indicate how the bird died. A law enforcement agent form the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service picked up the eagle, and a necropsy is planned to determine the cause of death As additional information is obtained, a posting with appear on this website. As mentioned, fledging time for any bird has high mortality risks associated with it. The remaining nest mate seems to have mastered basic flying 101 and may depart the nest soon or continue to use it as a temporary feeding and roosting site. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife appreciates the cooperation and vigilance of all the private landowners in the area who have come to know this bald eagle family and consider them part of the greater community.

Update September 2011

As of the second week in September the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has not received any information from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on necropsy results on the one dead fledgling bald eagle from the Lake Washington nest site. In future months we will be working to bring you some breeding history about this nest site and pair of eagles. We wish the pair a safe winter and hope they return to this spectacular nest tree and site. We are making preparations to install a new camera that will allow several unique views of eagle nest this next season. Please send out the WildWatchcam link to all of your friends and relatives - http://wdfw.wa.gov/wildwatch/

Here is the latest update from WildWatchCam c/o the WDFW.

Update September 2011
The streaming video for the eaglecam has been discontinued for the season. The adult eagles and the one surviving young eagle use the nest only rarely and their use will increase later this winter. Viewers are able to check on the tree-top nest views by clicking the 10 second image update.

We appreciate your viewing and other forms of support that help to continue this very unique fish and wildlife viewing project.

Nice catch, Debs! I know the cam was off for a while because I checked nearly every day for some time after the eagles disappeared and all I got was a black square. I'm glad it was on and that you found somebody home!! Very Happy
