Great pictures, BET! Not easy to catch #2 showing more than the top of his head! And welcome, Laurie!

I'm guessing that while we didn't see #1 until early yesterday morning, she probably hatched some time on Wednesday, but stayed tucked in because of the rain - which might make her two days older than the new chick, and would explain why she's so much stronger at this point. Also, knowing that she may not have been fed for a day or so reinforces for me the fact that it's just fine that we haven't seen #2 get more than maybe a bite of food today. I think that he'll be right up there beside #1 when breakfast is served in the morning. love

I received the News report from Bri - Patrick Keenan. I was too lazy to go look up how long it had been since we had a family here and what I sort of recalled, Patrick confirmed. Year after year watching and no chicks have run into each other. I recall one year when they used the nest for a dinner table and a notell motel and day after day looking for an egg as the result of their Xrated behavior. It will be fun to watch even though the wee ones are so hard to see in this deep bowl. They grow quickly

Eagle Chicks Hatch: View on NextEra's Maine Eaglecam

Gorham, ME - Biologists at Biodiversity Research Institute (BRI) confirmed today that the NextEra Maine Eaglecam1, located in Hancock County, Maine, revealed two chicks in the nest. The chicks hatched earlier this week and now are visible and being fed regularly....."We have not had a successful hatch at this nest since 2007, and we hope for the best as these birds grow and prepare to fly. It is going to be quite a journey," says Patrick Keenan, BRI's outreach director and coordinator of the Institute's webcam program. "......

Good morning!

Here's an animation by Lori from about 6:30 am of both being fed:

The early observers on the Maine Window-on-Wildlife forum reported that both chicks were fed at that feeding. There was another feeding at 8:00 am, but observers noted that the chicks were more interested in bopping each other than eating (which is quite normal at this age).

I just saw a brief feeding at about 8:50 am - and it looked as if both were up and getting some bites, though it was over quickly. The light isn't great at this hour, but you can see both chicks.

Judy, you can see them very well in the animations and the stills. When they get taller it will even be easier, right?
I love seeing 2 chicks and wonderful parents actively using this nest. It is such a joy.

Thanks for the video, Darlene - and for the picture of the most recent feeding, BET!

We think this is Dad who was feeding the chicks - and we think this may be the first time he's done that. love

Camera seems to have issues for me this morning - not streaming, but changes if I refresh. Hope they get it fixed.

It is a lovely day in Maine - hope the little ones enjoy the sunshine. Smile
