Judy, I searched back and it looks like PPO mom has laid 3 eggs in 2009, 2010, and 2011. There is no mention of an egg not hatching till this year. I assume this is correct as Tracy mentioned in a back blog that they contacted an expert at FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre to find out what they should do about the egg.

7:51pm- Mom is away from the nest a lot this evening. Chicks are huddled close to each other.
You can hear a dog barking a lot and either PPO mom or Pappa doing a lot of hooting.

8:10pm- Chicks are watching for Mom.

8:10pm- Mom returns to check on chicks. She stays just about 2 minutes and then leaves. It's now 8:57pm and she hasn't retuned again.

Re un-hatched egg:
I just saw on Facebook where Tracy told someone this is the first time an egg didn't hatch. Now it's confirmed!


9:21pm- Chicks are still alone. Dog is still barking in background!

9:28pm- Mom is back watching chicks.

9:29pm- Mom leaves again.

9:29pmChicks are watching to see where mom goes.

9:30pm- Still watching!

I could see one of the little ones taking the food... didn't get it on cap..

Mom is taking a little break now..

Mom is looking to see that all is Ok

I didn't hear Mom cough or see any unusual body movements..
