Wonderful pictures and reports, Jean! Glad you were able to catch Pappa's visit to the nest - he does seem to do a good job taking care of Mom while she incubates - but is a bit shy, it seems. Smile

They are such handsome creatures!

7:53pm- Mom has left the nest. I'm sure Pappa is close by keeping watch!

Hi Judy! Thanks. They sure are beautiful owls. Reading Tracey's blog, Pappa is always nearby protecting Mom and the eggs! Hope he is letting Tracey and Allan sleep at night! Whistling

1:13pm- A nice sunny day and Mom is in her usual postiion sitting on the eggs.

I had to shut the computer down early last night as we had some storm centers roll by. Didn't get to see Pappa at the nest, but I'm sure he brought a treat or two for Mom! What a great pair they make!Wub

9:31pm- It's nightime at the nest now and Mom is incubating her eggs. I am hoping to catch pappa at the nest this evening with a nice big juicy treat for mom.

I was gone this morning but don't think we missed much. Mom seems to stay on her eggs with just some egg rolling and changing positions during the daylight. Once night falls then we can expect her to leave the nest for some quick breaks as well as Pappa coming to the nest.

27 September and getting closer still...
Pot Plant Owl stayed out of the nest for a record 40 minutes last night. Amazing to think that she can be away from the nest and eggs all that time, and the eggs don't get cold. Our Spring temperatures are good with lovely sunny days and warm evenings, so I guess that helps.

Pappa is scarce at night. We've noticed over the past few years that during this period (just before the eggs hatch), Pappa travels further away from the nest to hunt. We suspect that is so that the food supply close to the nest will not be depleted when the chicks arrive, and food is required in vast quantities.

Not too long to go now...
