Just a quick post for all you lunatics out there. The moon will be at it's closest point to the earth Saturday night 11:30 EDT and will appear much larger and brighter than usual. Here is a link to a story about it .

I will be out of town and will have the camera, but not a tripod, so hope some of you will get some great shots of it to share.

I love all the pictures you have been posting. Lana your painting is absolutely breathtaking. You are so talented.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. See you after I get home.

Lana, it is beautiful - I was joking about miniatures for all of us, however, in all seriousness it would make a great avatar for you since it was a joint contribution from your joining this thread, meeting Christian, getting inspired and working your magic. I cherish that you posted it and hope it makes it past the juries.

I tried - it has too many pixels or something.
So we are stuck with the low grade pic of moi

Lana, good morning!

I love the picture of you. Your smile makes me smile. I use shrinkpictures.com to make avatar but one of the forum members made Bleu's leaping one for me as I was having difficulties.

Have a great day ELFs....and good luck at your shows Lana!

Thanks for the tip Carolyn.

I made a smaller image and went to my settings - deleted my photo and downloaded the ducky one. Saved it but it didn't stick. So we have to put up with the smile.Grin

That's wierd, Lana! I remember one member had changed their avatar one time and some people were seeing the old one and some the new - and mine did not change until I refreshed or reopened the Forum.

But I love your smile - you have better things to do like gorgeous painting - should not have mentioned, sorry!
hugs,
carolyn

Hi All,
Have you been keeping track of the Minnesota Bound Eagle Camera at all? They lost a chick a few days ago when it fell out of the nest and died and now the other one is stuck by the foot in the nesting material.
The (young) parents have been trying to free it and the baby just keeps struggling. They are waiting for permits to be able to climb up the 70ft to free it if that's what they decide upon. There is a raptor center nearby that has very qualified personnel.

(later...)
The poor parents were really upset. The baby was crying and trying so hard.
I'll tell ya, it was quite a comfort to know that help was on it's way. There was clear distress up there. [somebody made a comment ~ thank goodness for Gov't regulations!? or we'd all be climbing up that tree if we could! yes.]
An eagle expert went up to the nest and checked the eaglet out and eventually brought it down for a day or two of R&R then if all is well... quickly back up to the nest. asap
Check out the video if you want, or post a better one. I'd be interested to hear what all you think of this little encounter 70 ft up in a cottonwood.

The website went viral and it was some of the dumbest behavior on a mass scale I've witnessed in a while (of course, I don't have regular TV so I'm rather sheltered...lol)

Anyway, It's really good to know that he'll* probably make it. *Looks like a little fella to me. Made a valiant effort to free itself. By the time the rescue video was recorded, I think it was just beat.

Where there are birds there seems to be drama, says the lady with three cats. In said cats' defense, they're mousers when they work. In their offense, they catch gophers in the fields around us and then lose them in my garden!
I love my cats, though. One of them was on my lap watching the eagle mom brooding, both on alert.

This discussion forum has such talented people. I'm really enjoying the photos and artwork, the writing~ everything.
It's a nice lift to my day.

Annie, Thanks for the info about the honey in the hive. It was good to read it. I know our bees have honey that we can take, but yikes, they don't like it much when we do. lol And it's very hard not to destroy the comb when taking the honey. They work sooo hard to draw out that comb.
We keep planning to take some from them but we have a slacker mentality for the project. We are going to need to get in there probably today and give them more empty frames and all that. And who knows, maybe we will get some wonderful honey.

The WR nest is so full of body parts, it's kind of funny. And the stuffed animal with the little white tag makes me smile every time I see it. Reminds me of the poem.
