When I was in high school I, along with a mentor, trapped and "stuffed" two Kangaroo Rats for the Science Fair (got a Blue ribbon).
Later, I was very sad at having killed them. They have the most beautiful fur.
Your Grosbeak photo is wonderful. Spencer looks like he's having fun.
Too bad about the backyard feeders. I feed the doves and backyard birds....love hearing them sing.
Here is a pair of Eurasian Collared doves that have been coming for a few years. They didn't have
any food but sure knew who it came from. They were looking in the window watching me at the puter.
CLICK TWICE....(beautiful feathers)
I just down loaded some shots I took yesterday at the feeder and here is one of the Eurasian Collared Doves waiting in the tree, just off the feeder, ensuring it is safe to come and fee.
I was in the hammock in the backyard.

She's beautiful and what lovely trees to look up and see.
Our hammock bit the dust a long time ago and I never replaced it.
ETA: Just read your other post. I hope you can catch a shot of the squirrel...would love to see the little fella/gal. Most of our backyard is pool decking but I can keep the seeds for the ground feeders far enough that they don't get in the pool. For awhile now I've had problems with pigeons gobbling up the seeds...getting expernsive. I have no idea how they spotted the food since we are nowhere near downtown. I assume that's where they came from. I've been thinking of holding the food back until they give up....don't know if they ever would. The little doves come up to the patio door looking for the food and I feel bad and take it back out...in no time, the pigeons show up!

DIANA, WELCOME! It's great to have you join us!! I hope we see you back soon.
Thank you very much for the pretty morning card.
I love your kitties Amber and Lanie and isn't it funny how cats love to be by the window....mine spend a lot of time
looking out. One of mine is strictly a house cat and the other one is only out an hour or less in the morning and the
same at night. He simply prefers going potty outside so I let him.
BE BACK LATER EVERYONE...

Hi Again......Annie you are delightful!
It is awesome to hear from Diana. Thank you for the Rainbow Bridge and all the beautiful things you do there. We really appreciate it.
Watcher, you are incredible! We have a lot of squirrels who come to our feeder in the backyard. Bleu tolerates them so they get to stay those moments she is outside.
Arlene, it must be strange being landlocked after being in Nova Scotia, is it? What is Manitoba like? (I am really curious).
I am going to post two more pictures - one of three kitties and one of Bleu not wet. The three kitties are piled on each other and the white one is Ralph, the brown one Alice and the Lynx Eddie. My kitties are named after the Honeymooners although we never watched it. It was kind of funny that I also met a lady at the grocery store one day who named her Springer Spaniels after the actors who played the parts in the Honeymooners.
Here you go with photos.....

I had the same problem with Stellars Jays this past winter. They were eating all the food and not leaving any for the chickadees, nuthatches etc.
I bought a cage to put around one of the feeders, I have two: one for the larger birds in which I put a mix of oil sunflower seeds and striped sunflower seeds; and a smaller one in which I put a mix that includes grains, for the smaller birds.

But there are other birds that aren't as greedy as the jays such as the Northern Flicker

And the Varied Thrush

Which I like to have come to the feeder,
There doesn't seem to be an totally satisfactory answer.
You seem to be facing the same problem with the pigeons being approximately the same size as the Eurasian Collared Doves.

Annie
As you can see from my above post for some reason the post is double posting one of my images. Do you know why that is and what I can do about it?
