Good Morning Birdsie! i can tell you how to do a posh link, but sorry i can't solve your PM problem!!!
I'm going to do a posh link to PEB's posh tutorial, then I will show you what I did
POSH LINKS
This is how it looks in my post without spaces in the brackets!!!
[ url=http://www.hancockwildlife.org/forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=7&lastpost=true#7] POSH LINKS[ /url]
I left a space between the first [ and url, and one between [ and /url] so the formula would show up

PEB/jkr/Velma/help: I tried to make a link go posh last night in the Sidney/chat/pics forum and couldn't do it following your instructions. When I tried to send you my actual text I was denied and accused of trying to send spam. I can't send any PMs (my other problem)--so I'm here....can you direct me to a link that could help me? Thanks
Glad you got the link to work!
Here's the scoop on the spam issue.
Background - there are programs that log into computers and go from thread to thread posting ads for various products, not all of which are family-friendly. We have a program in place that assumes if there are several links to different areas on the same website in a post - or possibly more than a certain number of posts with similar links in a certain period of time - they're spam. So it adds that URL to a blacklist, and prevents anyone else from posting a link to that website unless someone tells it that the site is OK.
For instance, the photo site flikr ended up on the blacklist when someone had too many photos in a post - and no one else could post links to flikr. I've added them to the whitelist, so all is now good.
So even though you were only trying to post one link - someone else may have had a post that have several links to items on that website - and that triggered the spam alert.
I'm not quite sure how to let people know that they really need to contact PEB, jkr or me when they get the spam notice while trying to post a link. It does sound as if maybe you did something wrong - but you didn't - it's the program that hasn't learned the links for every wildlife site in the world yet. And we can't teach it unless we know that some URL has been added to the ban list.
It is a bit tricky to notify us - because once a URL is banned, you can't put it in a PM. So what I'd recommend is inserting some hyphens or other obvious symbols - for instance, if you got a spam alert while posting a link to www.hancockwildlife.org - you might send it to me as:
www - - han - cock - wild - life - - org
(assuming I'd guess there's a dot after www and before org.
Or let me know there's a problem, and we can figure out a code.
Otherwise no one else will be able to post links to that site - and new people might be very discouraged if they run across this on their very first post.
Thanks for your help!

JudyB, PEB, Velma, jke, helpers: Update on my PM sending problem:
Just tried to send a PM again--got my usual "security token failure" red banner so I tried to resend it. I slowly, methodically tried 15 times. None of them worked. I could preview the PM--it just wouldn't send.

Thanks for being so patient, Birdsie. We will figure this out - and it will help other people in the future.
I know we've asked you this before - but am not sure where, so if you wouldn't mind answering the following questions, it may help us debug this - and let us give Richard and/or Mark at glFusion to information that may help them figure this out.
1. What browser are you using - Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, AOL, something else? What version is it (usually you can find that under the Help menu as "about this program" or something like that.
2. What operating system do you have - Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Apple/Mac, something else?
3. What type of connection do you have - dial-up, DSL, cable, whatever? Does it generally seem reasonably fast? Do you often/ever have trouble opening pages here or viewing threads with lots of pics? (I'm trying to figure out if something is timing out.) Do you have to wait a long time after you post before the "click to view your post" screen comes up?
4. I don't want you to tell me your password - but we have occasionally had issues with passwords that were very short or had funny symbols in them. Any chance that could be an issue?
5. Have you tried sending a fairly brief message (5-10 words) with no formatting or smileys or anything except words to someone you know can get PMs (like Velma, jkr, PEB or me) - and only to a single person? (The program lets you send PMs to up to five people at a time, but I wouldn't try that until we get it working for a single recipient.) You can type the name of the recipient - but just in case it's relevant, I'd recommend scrolling down and picking it from the list of members.
6. Is there another computer you can try - at a library or a friend's house or something? If you can use PMs while on a different computer, we'll know that it's not something in your account settings.
7. Related question that I should have asked earlier - do you have more than one browser? If so, do you have the same problem with both? If not, would you consider installing Firefox or SeaMonkey (both are free and work well for many people - I can provide details via email if you're interested).
I can't think of anything else at the moment. I just sent myself a PM and didn't see a pop-up, so don't think checking for a pop-up blocker is relevant. And I don't think that a security program would block just one feature of the website.
Unless someone else has ideas, I'll sent the details on to Richard to see if he has any suggestions.
And thanks again for working with us on this!

Hi JudyB--I'm happy to help--I just hope it isn't a problem unique to me/my computer such that I take up your important time. I hope it helps others.
1. What browser are you using - Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, AOL, something else? What version is it (usually you can find that under the Help menu as "about this program" or something like that.
Firefox v 3.5.4
2. What operating system do you have - Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Apple/Mac, something else?
WindowsXP Home SP 3
I've got cable--here in CA it's Comcast cable. It's generally fast, no problem viewing HWF pages or threads with photos, have to wait a few seconds for videos to start playing (similar to old HWF), it takes more time for a post to come up than on the old HWF site--but just a few more seconds
4. I don't want you to tell me your password - but we have occasionally had issues with passwords that were very short or had funny symbols in them. Any chance that could be an issue?
my password is only letters and numbers, no symbols
Yes, I've tried sending just the word "test" in the title and the message bed, no smileys (had to restrain myself), no formatting, sent to you, PEB and to jkr--each only to that one person, no multiple recipients on PM. I haven't tried scrolling down and picking the name out of a list--I could try that
6. Is there another computer you can try - at a library or a friend's house or something? If you can use PMs while on a different computer, we'll know that it's not something in your account settings.
I could try on my husband's computer, it's a WindowsXP Pro, however.
7. Related question that I should have asked earlier - do you have more than one browser? If so, do you have the same problem with both? If not, would you consider installing Firefox or SeaMonkey (both are free and work well for many people - I can provide details via email if you're interested).
I have other browsers--I could try that. I don't have SeaMonkey

Thank you for so patiently trying to help me--I really appreciate it. I'll try the things you mentioned here that I haven't tried yet--and I'll let you know how it goes.
