{{{{{{Creston}}}}}}} Ospreys and people
I couldn't take all the sadness this 2011 season so I've not been watching any nests of late to lower my stress level. I do however keep up with my fav nests (of which this is one) by reading your notes. I'm so so sorry you guys for the sadness this year and I hope upon hope the remaining chick thrives and fledges. No more tragedies allowed in this nest! Do you hear Universe?!
I would rather spend my life close to the birds than wishing I had wings

Hi Lori
This has not been a good year. All the tragedies are taking it's toll on everyone and even giving me second thoughts about watching the cameras next season.
4:08 a.m.
Cherry is right on the edge of the nest sleeping with Mom standing over her.

When I asked CVWMA about them taking a picture of the nest for us here is their response.
Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area
I don't know if a picture would really show much but I can describe...The osprey nest tree is on a forested hill above the wetland. Below the tree is a mass of quite thick brush - shrubs and trees - and it is quite a tangle and very hard to walk through. If I was to stand below and take a picture, all you would see is greenery!

4:30 pm
Cherry is being fed. I think this is a leftover fish because I didn't hear any commotion of a delivery while I was out of the room.

4:32 pm
Cherry has already had enough so Mom has a good feed and cleans up around the nest.
Things are very different when there is only one chick to feed.

Today was a cooker ... 33C here in the Kootenays. We are having very high winds tonight... over 50 km/hr.
Rain and wind and I am hoping little Cherry is all tucked in under mom and in the CENTRE of the nest!
Hope all is well by morning ... right now the cam is down so I can;t even listen.
goodnight all.

The camera is down this morning which doesn't surprise me. As you mentioned brookec there was a wild storm come through last night, rain, lightning, hail and wind. It is possible there is a power outage in some areas but I don't see it listed on the BC Hydro outage list this morning.

Yes a wild storm. We lost power for about an hour.
And then the wind was unrelenting for ages.
Also it is cool this morning... only 15C. We will be back in the mid to high 20C starting tomorrow again.
Hope everything is ok at our little troubled osprey nest today.. hope the cam is up soon!
