What a great feeding this is. O1 is getting lots to eat. O2 is still wobbling around and not yet able to accept food.

Mom just ate the lining from the egg shell. (chazala is what I think Jazzel said it's called)

7:13 am
Mom is brooding again.
7:20 am
I'm surprised that Dad hasn't come along and removed the remaining fish.

Mom is having quite the time with eggshell. She removed a piece but it rolls into the bowl again.

Out for a few hours

No parent on the chicks for the last 20 minutes. But one must be standing near by as one of the chick woke up and kept focusing towards our left, asking to be fed. No response - One parent must be out fishing as no food in sight on the nest.

As I finished typing, a parent arrived - no fish - having a hard time trying to cup her feet around the chicks - backed off, moved to the other side and still having a hard time - this time its redwood bark in the way - Finally, she (I guess, I don't know who is who on this nest) settled down to cover the chicks

Does anyone besides me think this egg is a strange shape. Since I have been watching the last couple of days, this egg has been turned sideways/longway and it has struck me as being rather elongated, not the usual oval - Maybe it's just me, but I am curious if any one else thinks it a bit strange

Here is another view - 20 minutes later

I just got the answer - Mom moved again and the egg had been moved - It's a case of "egg in the half shell" Must be from the first hatching as the second half shell is off to the side.

O2 has decided to use the egg and his sibling as a pillow.

After all the moving she's done Mom has finally settled into a semi-brooding position.
Temperature is currently 19C (66F) .
