CRESTON VALLEY WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA 2011

The female osprey is sitting on three eggs that are expected to hatch by mid June.
EGGS WERE LAID:
1st -- May 10 -- Hatched June 16 --- "Pepper" went missing July 6th. Likely fell or was accidentally knocked off the nest.
2nd - May 13 -- Hatched June 18 -- "Cherry" killed by a crow July 16th.
3rd - May 17 -- Hatched June 22 --- "Gus" passed away June 27 -- the smallest and couldn't compete for food with two older chicks on the nest.
Background
Seasonally, a camera is installed on an Osprey nest perched above the wetland of the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area. We are very excited to have the camera up and going again for 2011.
Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area has partnered with Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program and Kootenay Wireless to broadcast the camera.
We thank them very much for broadcasting their camera for the world to see.

11:30 a.m.
Mom is up for a stretch ...... gives her feathers shake and wings a good flap.

Then she backed up for a poopshoot off the side of the nest.

She then resumed incubation.
11:39 a.m.
Mom begins squawking like crazy and Dad suddenly arrives on the nest. In a flurry of wings I think he brought in a fish and Mom claimed it. She flew off and left Dad to take over the eggs.

6:44 am
Mom has been incubating the eggs since I turned on the camera this morning. No switch and the other adult hasn't made an appearance.
The rain is beginning to obscure the camera.

10:27 am
Mom arrived.
She walked the complete perimeter of the nest while waiting for Dad to get off the eggs.

10:30 am
Dad finally decided to get up and fly off toward the road.
Mom gave the three eggs a roll then settled in.
The camera is a mess with all this rain today.
