Sue.....so sorry about the eaglet. Power lines and wind mills seem to take a toll on raptors. The biologist report was excellent to read. Thanks for posting that info to you and Judy B.

Rather nice of Joker to keep you company.

Have a wonderful fall and look forward to news of this nest next season.

This has been wonderful to be able to see.

I don't have a photo right now, but good news. After anxiously watching one eagle adult for a month, the mate showed up. For the last month, the adult eagle (I think the female) was perching for hours in a few of the favorite spots. She ate at the nest a few times. It seemed as if she was watching and waiting and stayed close to the nest. Yesterday she was moving sticks around in the nest. This morning the male showed up at the nest very briefly. They danced around a bit and then both took off. I'm so glad to see both adults.

Glad to hear that both adults are now back, Sue! Smile

Are you still seeing Joker occasionally? The lingering fledgling on the Channel Islands finally has left the nest area in mid-October, so I was wondering if Joker was still there, or when you last saw him/her. Thanks!

If you'd like to start a new thread for the 2012 nesting season, you're welcome to do that whenever you're ready. We tend to look at the return of the adults and the beginning of work on the nests as the beginning of the new nesting season, so most of the eagle nests have new threads set up sometime in the fall. Please let me or any of the other Admins know if you need any help.

Hi everyone! I have heard from Sue - and am hoping she'll stop by from time to time to post an update, though she's not planning to be a full-time observer this year (though she might consider if they have four chicks again!).

She reported that the adults stay around all year, and they laid their first egg on February 25, and she was pretty sure there were at least two by the beginning of March.

I owe her an email, so I will invite her to stop by from time to time.

Last year was quite magical - and I am wondering what will happen this year. Smile

Hi friends, Mom and Dad eagle are diligently incubating the eggs. I watched their behavior closely when she laid her first egg. I'm very inclined to believe she has three, rather than just two. I watched several times so far where the dad eagle comes to set on the eggs while mom takes off. They are such wonderful parents. I anticipate the first hatching around April 1.

My video camera is all set up to film as events occur. It's unlikely that she would have another set of four this year. I'm still in awe over last summer and watch my videos repeatedly.

Kate, the biologist here, has been checking on them already this spring. She has a book in the making devoted to this particular nest, which will include the bear interaction and many, many beautiful photos. She hopes to have it out by spring 2013. I'm excited. I'd be happy to share her website if you PM me.
