This past week there has also been small ducks called Buffleheads at the lake. I included them in the video also, they are another diving duck and they are very people shy. They have been shot at with shotguns all winter, so I do not blame them for swimming off when I approach them.Nodding The male is the colorful one, the female is brown in coloration.

The American Coots are at the lake in large numbers, they are constantly in motion and if approached swim out and then return to the shore line after I leave. So I have to be a little sneaky to catch them foraging. I included them in the video also, not only foraging in the water but on land too. They have beautiful dark red eyes with a red spot between the eyes. Their legs and feet are very unusual, green and purple.

This solo pair of Cackling Geese flew in to the lake and settled on the water, the female is a mixed breed most likely between the Cackling Goose and the White-fronted Goose.

The Ring-billed Gulls dive into the water and frequently come up with a crayfish as this bird did. They generally take their catch to land and pull the claws off and beak the meat out of the hard plate covering of the crayfish.
